Xylitol toothpaste question

Hi, I have been reading tons of posts on here over the last few days. I recently noticed dark spots inside 2 of my sons molars, which I assume are cavities as we can not brush them away. My son is only 2y10m, and has already had some traumatic experiences with medical personnel, and therefore has an intense fear of doctors, so I am not willing to take him to a dentist unless absolutely necessary.

I decided to try Xylitol toothpaste and see how it helps. The closest store where I *may* be able to find it is about 45 minutes away, so today I checked out the toothpastes at Target while I was there. I found an Oral B infant toothpaste that lists Xylitol as an ingredient. I'm wondering if this is as good as the ones I have seen mentioned here (which are available online). I don't know how to tell how much is in the paste, it is the 6th of 8 ingredients if that helps. I will definitely get something else if it is better.

Also, any other ideas of how to help his teeth would be greatly appreciated. DH has very weak teeth (he got full dentures on top at age 31) and it seems to run in his family, so I am guessing my son got his teeth. I cannot imagine having to subject him to the dentist at this age, especially with his fear already. Thanks so much in advance!

Xylitol toothpaste

Hi, Unfortunately I have a lot of experience using Xylitol products with my 2.5 son. He was diagnosed with Early Childhood Caries [ECC], which is A DISEASE compounded by what he eats.

Anyway Oral B Infant toothpaste DOES NOT have enough Xylitol in it to halt your child's cavities.

I would call the other store to find out for sure if they have Xylitol products, even if all they carry is the granular form of Xylitol. When my mom and I first began using Xylitol for Trenton's teeth that is what we used. 1 tsp (which equals 4 grams) to maybe 2 TBSP water and washed it over his teeth until my mom found that amazon.com carried SPRY [www.xlear.com] dental defense.

The rest is history. Now we use SPRY, EPIC, and ZELLIES Xylitol products. Though mom just found a new 100% Xylitol product site called XyloBurst, they offer free samples...so I've sent for some.

Websites to read, besides xlear: www.zellies.com, www.epicdental.com, these are excellent and very informative [especially zellies].

These are GMO - free.

Hope this helps!

where to order toothpaste....

http://www.homesteadmarket.com/

they also carry many other xylatole products s/a mints, gum, etc.

I hope it works. Its good that you are watching it closely. Maybe you can also find a dentist you can trust to at least check her teeth... My DD had bad cavities that I could not see and she ended up with an abcess, sugery, etc.

good luck to you,
Julie

Thanks for your replies, I did manage to get to the store and buy a xylitol toothpaste, as well as the granular form, which we have been giving him. I managed to get a better look at his teeth last night, and unfortunately they seem way worse than I had previously thought. It seems as though most, if not all, of his molars are affected. It seems we will have to be bringing him to the dentist either way - wish us luck! We will continue the xylitol, hopefully all will turn out ok. Thanks again!

I love www.epicdental.com

I posted not that long ago with a coupon code to get 50% off your first order and 25% off your second order.

Look under my name to find it!

Also FWIW Jack loves the mint non floride xylitol toothpaste. He calls it Minty Bubbles

Dr. Ellie advises using xylitol for 6 months to a year, I would advise going on her site www.zellies.com and reading her blogs. When I first began using xylitol for my 2.5 his teeth didn't look very good, but my mom kept encouraging to stick with it and now 6 months later his teeth are looking pretty good.

So all I can do is encourage you to stick with it.

You could also try homeopathic remedies: Calc fluor, Calc Phos, Silica, and Mag Phos. These will help his permanent teeth.
