Just took my liitle guy in for his 12 month check up with a new dr. She wants him on a multi-vitamin/flouride supplement. No particular reason - just seemed like her routine. I need to do some research, but what do y'all think about flouride?

If she wants to do a topical fluoride treatment and can vacuum up the saliva with fluoride in it...that would be acceptable. BY NO MEANS INGEST ANY FLUORIDE. Topical applications are one thing but ingesting fluoride can actually cause dental and skeletal fluorosis!!

I was shocked to learn our government poisons us regularly and even Harvard research shows us how dangerous this is. Proponents of fluoride have tried to down play and even bring the Harvard study into question but I believe this is because they are afraid if enough Americans find out how we've been duped, a virtual riot would break out - and it should! Most countries outside the U.S. have banned fluoride from water and other sources.
In areas where naturally occuring calcium fluoride runs very high in the ground water, children have rampant cavaties and older people suffer from osteoporosis - all caused by high fluoride in their drinking water! IMO, any dentist who is unaware of these facts is ignorant and should NOT be allowed to practice dentistry. We are the only country who is so backward that our own government promotes poison.

I have used flouride once in my life and I am in my early 20s with a 2year old now, second gen. no flouride. I grew up with my mom as an activist against flouride, so I was appalled to see a whole article on the good and no bad of flouride in a local "Island Parent" Magazine in Victoria BC. I needed some reassurance that the toxic flouride has not changed, so I came to MDC to read and get some reassuring feedback, that mabye I can write this magazine a letter. I just can't belive what I read. Am I right in thinking that Flouride is a poison to our kids and ourselves? I hope I am not posting in the wrong forum, I am new. lol

my Dr prescribed flouride too
at my 7mo dd's last visit, her Dr prescibed a multi-vitamin with fluride and I was skeptical but hadn't done enough research yet. The main reason I didn't use it was that there was artificial flavor and parabens in it. Now after looking more into the fluoride controversy, I won't give it to her. Thanks for all the references ladies!

Floride Toothpaste
I live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.I started (about a month ago) letting my 2 1/2 year old use flouride toothpaste at nighttime. I'm feeling uneasy about it though because he swallows some of it (depite my efforts to teach him not to swallow it). I'm just looking for feedback from other parents on this issue. Do you let your little one use floride toothpaste? If so, at what age did you start and does your little one know how to not swallow it?
I did look at the links provided so far on floridation but they are all on flouride in drinking water as opposed to floride toothpaste. My dentist insists that I use a flouride toothpaste it for my son which is why I started him on it. I know the medical profession is completed biased though so I'm worried I am doing the wrong thing.
Thanks

My dentist (here in Alberta), said definitely not before 4, if ever. They even recommended that I go to the natural foods store and find one without fluoride for the whole family.
