Cephalohematoma experience

My 2 week old has a Cephalohematoma from prolonged pushing (about 4 hours). He was asynclitic and a tough fit, but thankfully still born at home. Any experiences on when the dang unsightly bump will go away??

I've seen them be very small in two weeks - so small that it's more like a funky shape than a bump. I've also seen them persist for 2-3 months.
I don't think arnica would help, but it certainly can't hurt.

How do you feel about hats?

Congrats on your new baby.

Ds's got smaller, but never went away. He's 2 and half and still has a lump, but it isn't noticable or problematic in any way. I do wish I had known about craniosacral therapy though, as he is undergoing it now and I really think it would have helped the lump go away completely if we had done it while he was a newborn.

We did cst right after birth and have more scheduled....also doing arnica so it sounds like we are doing the right stuff. Thanks for the experiences!

My dd had the same (though only 5mins of pushing) it was large and due to positioning. It went up and down in size, but was gone by 4 months (but was bascially invisible under her hair after 6-8weeks). I read that typical is weeks to a year or more.

Your only concerns are jaundace (ours was prolonged, due to the blood in the cepth. not circulating) and it calcifying, which is really rare.

My son (2 in march) had one on his head...I only pushed for 20 mins...but I had a 37 hour long labor. The pedi. said that it would desolve its self over time and I actually was looking at his head the other day and it hit me that it's completely gone. In the early months I kept asking and asking about it and she reassured me everytime that it was no big deal and it would take care of it's self.
