knitting gauge question

ok so im doing a gauge for the picky pants pattern since i was so off with the longies.

ok so im right on wit hthe width i used size 8 needles and i get 18 stitches in 4"
but in the length i get 24 stitches at 3" instead of 4"..what do i do?

im using O-wool btw if that helps at all.

If the pattern has you knitting rounds for a certain number of inches, rather than a certain number of rounds, don't worry about it. Just knit until you reach "x" number of inches as directed. I would imagine you're knitting to your rise in inches and your inseam in inches rather than a prescribed number of rounds.
