Started ED but gas pain is worse

I'm starting day #3 of Sears' ED (I had range-fed turkey, an apple, leftover white rice, squash/zucchini, and sweet potato the 1st day; turkey, pear, quinoa, sweet potato yesterday). Gas, eczema, and pumpkin mucousy or liquidy poop.

He was "normal" night before last (a bit gassy, but easy to get back to sleep, until I came to bed), but last night was way different. My mom watched him for a couple hours and said he was gassy (also very tired) and arched his back/cried out even when upright. He was fine when I came home, and went down ok (nurses to sleep). His current pattern is I nurse him to sleep in bed and sneak away once he falls asleep), then he wakes between sleep cycles and we rock him back to sleep unless he is pretty awake, then I nurse him again. Most of these wakings are with his legs curling up; we've always assumed gas, but the pains don't bother him when he's in deep sleep. Last night I was up with him quite a bit, we'd get about 1.5 hours sleep after I nursed him, then he'd be up, tired, but not wanting to nurse back down. Eventually he would...later, rinse, repeat. Upright helps a bit, but not always. We don't usually have to miss sleep like that...he goes for about 12 hours.

I will not eat quinoa today to see if that is the culprit...it is not part of my normal diet and I added it as many EDing mamas seem to rave about it. Any other ideas? Yeast die-off? He did nap ok this afternoon for 45 min...

Oh, I've been strict dairy-free since Xmas 'cept for the cheese Quizno's put on my sub last weekend..I was too hungry not to eat it. Yes, I do know I should have avoided the bread, too. I did notice a little increase in gasiness, but nothing like last night!

Thanks!

Keep in mind that the milk (or anything else) can stay in your breastmilk for up to 4 days afterwards (that's just speaking from my experience - 96 hours after milk for ds to stop projectile vomiting my milk). Apples can cause gas, as can almost any food. Keep a VERY good food journal with all symptoms and foods. You can do it Sherlock!

Gas - thyme decoction

In India, this is a common remedy for gas in BF infants.

A decoction of thyme seeds- 1-2 spoonfuls a day, start with only a few drops. The thyme cleanses the digestive system and also helps the respiratory system- read colds-

its about a spoonful of thyme seeds to a cup of water. Dont know if the herb works as well, but seeds are generally more potent .
Fennel seeds also work similarly.

I do a decoction of a mix of both and it helps DS.

You can get at most Asian stores

Really sorry you are having such a hard time.

We got worse on the elimination diet. Actually we yo-yoed between slightly better and a lot worse. We were STRICT, too - turkey, squash, brown rice, pears and olive oil only. The turkey was not organic or free range and we think that certainly makes a difference (at least all the antibiotics fed to conventionally raised animals). Also, I think we've been battling eczema and allergies for so long that we are just really sensitized to a lot of things and eating the same thing every day just made it worse. I made it to day 8 of elimination before I had to stop - I was literally pooping rice. Which was a wake-up call to me that perhaps cereal grains (grasses) INCLUDING rice should be cut out.

So, what we're doing - on day 4 here with increasing optimism as things are continuing to get better after an initial dip (day 2 and 3 were BAD) - is a rotational diet. We're completely avoid our known allergens (dairy, garlic, beans, tree nuts) and avoiding our suspected ones (all legumes, cereal grains) and then doing a four day rotational diet. I.e. don't eat the same thing more than every four days.

Okay I've got to put DD to bed. BBL.
