Too much cranberry juice?

Does anyone know if cranberry juice could be bad for me if I drink too much? I'm addicted to it.

I get the unsweetened kind. I can't drink any water unless it has some cranberry juice mixed in. I drink a 32 oz bottle every few days. I know cranberry juice has a lot of good qualities-- and I crave it so much. But can drinking too much be bad?

I really hope not because I love it so much!

I hope not!

I drink a ton too. I also love cranberry spritzers, half cranberry and half sparkling water.

I'm not a huge plain water fan either, but am able to get more down when I'm pregnant. I guess it's the body knowing what it needs.

Well, I think if you have an active UTI, the acidity in the juice can be bad but other then that, I don't see a problem.

I was wondering the same thing about pickles because I ate like 5 already today.

I'd always heard cranberry was great for UTI's. I got one just days after birth with both girls and was fortunate that a ton of cranberry was enough to knock it out both times. That's the only time I've ever had UTI's.

Yeah, I had heard that too. But I just read recently that a cranberry juice is great for preventing a UTI but if you have an active UTI, the acidity can make it worse. Just something I read recently, I was kind of surprised.

Maybe getting all the extra fluids cleared yours out or maybe what I read recently about cran juice is bonkers, who knows? LOL

No telling! I can never keep up with all the changes in what is and isn't good or does and does not work.

My sister gets UTI's a lot and it certainly doesn't do anything for her.

It also said that lower back pain can put pressure on your bladder and prevent it from emptying completely, thus causing UTI, thought that was interesting.

I used to get bladder infections all the time, and I would buy a jug of cranberry juice and by the time I finished it my infection was gone. The only times I've ever had to go to the doctor with a bladder infection, in fact, was when I lived in Denmark and couldn't find any cranberry juice.

I think I read that it could make kidney stones worse when you drink too much but you'd have to drink more than 16oz of the unsweetened per day or something like that.
Maybe that's what you read? I think it's only good for UTIs. I'm convinced that's why I never had one.

It doesn't give me heartburn at all-- in fact I think it helps it. I do get bad hb once in awhile and it's always when I haven't had any cranberry juice in awhile. try it!

I just finished reading about uti's (my dh just had one) and cranberry helps prevent it, and if you have an active uti helps get rid of it (w/ the help of anitbiotics if need be). The cranberry juice prevents bacteria from sticking to the bladder so that when you pee it flushes the bacteria back out.

so also, if you drink cranberry on a daily basis its probably good as it will help prevent uti's!

I have a problem with sweet stuff, so I can drink it diluted, but usually if I feel a UTI coming on, I break out my dried-cranberry capsules. I take 4 of those every 4 hours (they're 100% natural, not concentrated or have any additives, can't remember the brand...) with lots of cold water and usually the UTI symptoms are gone within 24 hours, if not sooner.

The only thing I've heard about too MUCH of it is the same as others have said, that the acidity of it can actually cause a UTI. I know my daughter gets uncomfortable when she drinks too much of any juice. But if I read that correctly, you said you go through 32oz. of it every 2-3 days? That doesn't seem excessive to me. Don't know though... maybe your MW has an opinion on it.

I LOVE cranberry juice. I have not had much recently, but at times I drink a lot in a short period of time. I have never had any problems. I guess it would more than likely depend on exaclty how much you drink. Most pure juices are pretty good. But I find it harder and harder to find cranberry without all the sugars and junk. Only one brand is sold here that is 100% juice. Most are 25-30%.

I think it's good for you aside from the sugar. Even 100% juice kinds are high in sugar--just less so than the cocktail.

Lots of good stuff, though, too, so I'd say you're fine unless you're having problems with blood sugar or weight or something.

I've been craving cranberry juice too. It's the only juice I drink and I mix it with water. It's also one of the only things that has helped my morning sickness. I'd say carry on. I can't see that it's going to do you any harm. There's no way I'm giving it up!
