I don't remember where I found this or who wrote it but I found it to be beautifully inspiring and hope you do to!

You have given birth thousands of millions of time. Birth is given by all female, human and animals. Birth is imprinted in our bodies. The genetic code of natural birth is recorded in our genes. The instincts are deep inside us, ready to act, knowing every aspect of this wonderful, life bearing phenomenon. Birth is what we come through to this world. Birth is our eternal service to life. The universe creativity is flowing through us in the sublime moment of childbirth and has prepared the sweet reward of ecstasy for our cooperation. Listen! Childbirth is fun! Yuo can see it in an easy childbirth video. It is not painful in the least! Pain comes from fear and ignorance, from immaturity and disbelief. The childbirth is meant to be a celebration, a most wonderful and ecstatic experience with which we rejoice in the act of universal creation. Just imagine that you are painting a picture and whatever you pain comes to life and starts running. This is so true of childbirth. Childbirth is a unique point of manifestation. Your thoughts, conscious and unconscious, become real. In a progression they follow the command of their creator and march on this earth. Just like a child, invited in your mind and heart, comes into flesh, so your thoughts, and hopes, and fears come into true occurrences. So be aware! And know childbirth is easy! It is the most vital and natural act, just a bit rare nowadays. Have you seen a cat panicked of an imminent childbirth? No! A wild cat is in tune with her body, with nature and gets powerful, strong, determined and ready. She has long for prepared a secluded and safe place, taken care of herself and gives birth there without interference with ease and composure. Such is the woman inside. The woman-mother inside knows its craft; she has mastered the mystery of giving way to life through birth. She has long been a servant to the Goddess of creation and has experienced the magic of being one with her in the act of birth. Birth is an initiation into Womanhood. Birth is a celebration of love. Think of it this way. Have you ever pushed yourself in exercise until you feel the burn, because you had a goal in mind and something you wanted to accomplish? Birth, is that. You are using muscles to get your baby out. Muscles that don't work that hard except during labor. The work of getting the baby out gets tiresome and the muscles burn. But, you are not a victim you are a strong woman doing hard work for a good reason with a wonderful goal in mind and a fantastic prize to be won in the end. Thinking this way, changes the pain because it changes your perception. And that is half the battle.

...

“Have you never heard anyone speak positively about labor and birth before? If so, you are not alone. One of the best kept secrets in North American cultures is that birth can be ecstatic and strengthening. Ecstatic birth gives inner power and wisdom to the woman who experiences it, as you will learn from many of the birth stories told here. Even when women in my village experience pain in labor, they understand that there are ways of making the sensations of labor and birth tolerable that do not involve numbing the senses with drugs.”

"Childbirth brings a change in the state of consciousness akin, I believe to that achieved by shamans and mystics. It is a time when a woman reaches beyond normal perceptions and may involve a vision of the universe which transcends ordinary reality. It is a time when we reach down into the very depths of our being to find the resources to give birth. Of course, in the west we are unused to moving in these realms of consciousness and we have lost our knowledge of how to support someone who is doing so."

Wow! Thanks for sharing. I really think things like that (positive reinforcement I guess) have always helped me during labor. I don't believe labor is totally mind over matter but it IS a large part.
