This is a disaster. I understand (but please correct me if I'm wrong) that the Ayatollah was not merely a leading Shiite religious figure and a leading political figure in Iraq, but also seemed to hold significant promise of fomenting reasonable and livable compromises among adverse factions in the country. Additionally, this can only lead to more violence. What horrible news.

There is a verse of the qur'an that says: "They plan and Allah plans and Allah is the best of planners," so I can only say that it must have been his time and perhaps a new leader will arise in his place that will be as strong or stronger, as wise or wiser.
What a beautiful way to look at this tragedy. I mourn for loss of life and that such a holy place was attacked.

Peace,
