Cotton Fleece

I picked some up today to knit a sweater for my brother's baby on the way. When I got hom I read the ball band and it says to hand wash. Boo. I was wondering if any one has tried machine washing it? My brother & SIL are expecting twins, there's no way I'm giving them any thing that needs to be handwashed.

So, have you machine washed this yarn? Did it still look nice? Should I just return it? Also what machine washable yarns do you like?

I've never tried machine washing cotton fleece, but when I bought some at my lys the owner swore that she tossed her garments made from it in the washer all the time. To play it safe, I would probably give instructions to machine wash on gentle and then lay flat to dry. Maybe even include a lingerie mesh bag that it can be washed in.

(Hi, Gillian!! We miss you guys already)

To answer the OP, I made a throw for DH's Nana last Christmas, and it has been machine washed. I believe it got a bit smaller after washing, but kept its shape.
I would definitely recommend gentle cycle (if not hand wash) and laying it flat to dry.
