Sore molar only when chewing gummy candy

I get pain in my molar if I eat gummy candy, which I thought was strange so mentioned it to my dentist who took an x-ray and said there seemed to be a tiny speck between the two roots of the molar where the gum is. . . some sort of gap, and prone to bacterial infections. He said there's nothing you can really do about it and it's impossible to clean it at home or at the dentist's office, so just sit tight and monitor it.

Anyone had this happen? Anything I can do? He said mouthwash *might* help. . . Would CLO help, or ??

I have no other dental problems, and have never had a cavity, even. I did get all 4 wisdom teeth taken out several years ago due to lack of space.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Anyone? I figured I'd at least get people telling me to stop eating gummy candy! Yes, I should and don't do it often. I'm only worried because it's a symptom indicative of a larger problem. . . .

When I've had sticky things cause problems, it always seemed indicative that a filling was coming loose but was not yet loose enough to come out or to hurt. With no fillings, I wonder what it's really pulling on that hurts? I'd take it as a sign to not chew sticky foods in general in that part of your mouth though!

You could also try xylitol candy, which might get into that space like the gummy did, but won't encourage more decay and might even help a tiny bit. If the dentist's advice sounds a little off to you, a second opinion couldn't hurt!

Thanks. I'll look into the xylitol.

Elaine,

I would try this:

http://oilpulling.com/

It worked very well for me!
