there is only one expansion pack and if you didnt want to be a blood elf or draenei you could in theory not even get it until you were level 60, the expansion gives you two new races (blood elf or draenei with their newbie zones and after 60 content)

as far as playing by yourself, i would suggest warlock, hunter or possibly rogue, because those classes can solo well, and maybe druid, but its slower going on druid imo.

if you have a friend with it you might be able to get a 10 day pass to try it out, if your husband is on some games he might know how to get you both one.

you dont even need a friend for a 10 day pass... you can go get one right from the WoW website (that's what i did)

The part thats been holding me back is starting alone. DH was always playing with me when we did EverQuest so I had someone to group with and walk me through setting things up (and I had leveled pretty high and was in an elite guild before our server merged with another and screwed it all up). As far as what server is best, it really defends on the play style you like, there are normal servers, pvp servers, rp servers and rp/pvp servers. Personally I play on a rp server, not because I like to rp, but because I like the way it filters the people who play on it, hehe. If you *have* to name yourself leethaxnoobpwnerlol, you can't do it on a rp server, hehe. I just think there's a little less immaturity and a few less a-holes on rp I also am heavy into pvp however, so I simply play with all of my characters permanently "flagged" for pvp, allowing any enemy player to attack me at any time. There weren't rp/pvp servers when wow first came out, or I would have started on one of them :P

And I wouldn't worry about the expansion until you've played for a bit and know you want to keep playing, unless you absolutely *need* to play one of the new races.

My play time is sporadic now with dd, but I generally play every day for at least a bit, you're welcome to look me up on my server, I play horde side on feathermoon. I'd be happy to answer any questions and help out when I can, I can't guarantee help all the time, but I do have a guild you could join of generally helpful people that will at least answer any of your questions.

Blizzard released the WoW Battle Chest which has the original game and the Burning Crusade expansion for 39.99. Which IMO is a really good deal, since it's 20 dollars cheaper than purchasing them seperately. Plus you get smaller sized versions of the Brady game guides for both which is an additional savings.

The Battle Chest set is what i got and i highly recommend it! My dh even likes it cause he had the CD version of the games, and it was like 5 dics each... this was DVD version so only 1 disc for the game and 1 for the expansion. But I would get the 10 day trial to see hoe you like it before dropping the $$$.

The set is all in 1 box and available in many stores (gamestop, wal-mart, etc...)

If you join, you can join the Runetotem realm... there is an MDC guild going on the Alliance side called MsAdventure Co. Usually there seems to be at least one or two members on at a time. And we are quite friendly.

There's a list of all our characters names... so you can just whisper one (for ex /r Avye) and they can add you. (though only if you say you are from MDC)

Saying that... whoever updates the list..my characters are now Avye - lvl 21, and Isoldara lvl 65.

I liked the Battle Chest edition. We lost our old cds moving and my husband and I bought two Battle Chests. The books in them are really helpful. Even to me and I've been playing since the game came out. I took an eight month break and I started all over and I forgot how to get to a few different places.

I'm getting too old and crochety for this game. AV bites. These same people kept coming into the BG and then going AFK. I would whisper them and tell them to play, then in the middle of healing the person tanking Vandar Stormpike, I'd report them AFK as many times as I could. No one else cared to. Then Drek went down before Van did, so annoying. The guy finally whispered me back and said it's been bad all day, so he is just sitting in the cave.

Sooooooooo annoying! Every time they are rogues. I saw a rogue in our bunker (this was when I was playing my Alliance in AV) and thought he was defending it, but no, he was just standing outside the bunker. People kept reporting him AFK so he got the debuff, but then he'd ride out near a fight and get credit for a kill, then go AFK again. Twice he let our bunkers get taken.

Oh, and there was lots of obscenity, so I reported the worst of it. I'll probably get banned for reporting people too much. So here is a question: Would you report a name with the word rapist in the title?

I used to have that problem in AV a lot before. Mostly I'd just shout at everyone who was afk, didn't usually report them though. But that's an idea! For some reason the Alliance side on the European servers is just full of stupid. They can't win anything. Ever!

I don't think reporting someone AFK is a big deal. If you right click on their portrait, there is an option to report them AFK which sends them some sort of notification. I guess prompting them to move and participate, but I don't really know, I should ask my husband to do it to me just so I can see it. If enough people do it, they get a debuff where they will not get honor for that battleground unless they get an honor kill, I think.

It's usually a pain in the butt to find the portraits, so I used to not bother, but I have the whole raid screen up now, so I can usually find the portrait to click if I'm not overwhelmed. People actually have mods that auto-report based on 0 damage dealt 0 healing done 0 HKs. That can be deceiving, though, because sometimes I camp out in a tower or bunker to defend it. Yesterday some guy was yelling that we should report every one in our base, which I think is complete and utter boolsheet. They don't like people to defend--or turtle, as they call it. I mean the idea that any defense gets automatically written off as "ugh, turtling" annoys me.

The only problem with afk reporting is that the person has to get into pvp combat with an actual player and not an NPC within a certain time frame before the debuff gets deactivated.

Alterac is notorious for situations where you may not encounter the other faction. I had a guildy that was reported AFK while guarding a GY just this weekend. I know him and there is no way he would be afk in bgs. Heck on my rogue I've stealthed straight to Dun Balder at the begining of the game and taken bunkers. No contact with players, just NPCs. If I got reported afk I would have to leave and search out a player to go into combat to remove it.

Having said that I do report people afk in AV sometimes, I'll report anyone cave sitting with 0 0 0 across the board after a certain amount of time that the BG has been going.

No one needs to be guarding the starting cave

The auto reporting and griefing reporting was out of hand when they first did the change awhile ago but it's slowed down.

Oh and I just right click on the map to report, I never bother to look for their portrait in the raid.

So, instead of levelling, which I should be doing, I went mad & broke down the list into realms. If there's someone on your realm, you can check their name in the first post to see what their character name is, I wasn't quite that ambitious.
