CBI Is lowering its requirements

CBE's trained with Childbirth Intl will no longer have to attend a birth, observe a class series, or film their own class for certification. Doulas won't have to observe a short class anymore.

They're adding a questionarre of your reactions to class situations and an assignment to evaluate local birth options and services.

Almost cheapens the certification, but it does speed the process considerably and we can go get experiences like those of our own accord if we want.

I think that cheapens it. My cert with them was well earned, and the class observations and video taping were a great aspect. I'm disappointed to hear that.

I see why they'd not require videotaping. What if someone doesn't have access to a recorder? Not observing a class doesn't make much sense though. Did it have to be a CBI teacher? I guess if someone trains in GA and there the closest teacher is NC, that would make sense too. I always thought attending births was an unfair requirement for CBEs. A lot of us choose CBE instead of becoming a doula because attending births doesn't fit into our lifestyle.

I think there were many students who couldn't find a CBE to let them observe a class, which is why they changed it.

so what are the requirements?

you mean there were none nearby, or the local CBE's weren't allowing them to observe?

I think it's necessary and hopefully where available CBI students will try to do this.

Both.

They still encourage students to do it, its just not a requirement.
