Hi Ladies! I am thrilled to be joining all of you. I don't have an official due date yet, but I think it will be around Oct. 8 or so.
My name is Adrienne and I am a sahm to Ben (6) and Eli (3) who bring me joy, laughter, frustration and chaos everyday. We are a homeschooling family and we are loving it. I am very passionate about homeschooling.
I am married to a wonderful man, who puts up with me and my extended family - Bless his heart! We have been married almost 12 years and we met while we were both traveling in Europe in our early 20s. Man, that seems like a lifetime ago.
Our two sons were both born as naturally as possible in a Birth Center/hospital with a wonderful midwife. Our first was induced because of high blood pressure at 38 weeks. I also had an IV with antibiotics because I tested positive for Group B Strep. Otherwise, it went really well and took about 6 hours. Our second was born on his due date and with very little assistance in about 3 hours. I am hoping for an even quicker birth this time!
I would love to have a girl, but I am not going to make any predictions this time. I thought the first two were going to be girls...Oops! My parents have 6 grandsons and no granddaughters, so a girl would be a nice addition, and I would really like to name her after my mother. But I would be just as happy with another boy. I love my boys!
I would like to try a homebirth, as I was born at home unassisted. I know my father would be very proud to attend the birth of one of my children, since he was the one who "caught" me. I am a little nervous though because my second son was limp when he was born. He came out of it quickly, but that made me very nervous. He was just like a pile of jelly when they handed him to me, and then they quickly took him and rubbed him all over to 'bring him to life'. It was very scary. I am sure that a trained midwife could have done the same thing, but I am still a little scared. Actually my first choice over having a homebirth is to have this baby at The Farm in middle TN - where the author of Spiritual Midwifery, Ina May Gaskin lives and (I think) still is a midwife. We live about an hour and a half away, so I am hoping to get in there. (We have moved since our last child was born, so hiring the midwife we used before is out of the question.)
We decided a while back to live a simpler life. We moved to a farm in the middle of nowhere with my parents and my sister and her family. We all have our own houses (thankfully - Living with extended family isn't always easy.) and plenty of room on 200 acres. We are growing as much of our own food as we can, and we are working on building new houses - as the ones that were here are not very efficient or nice. We hope to convert mostly to solar and wind power over the next few years. We have bees, turkeys, chickens, peacocks, guineas, geese, ducks, and lots of dogs and cats. We love this lifestyle, even though it is pretty hard sometimes. We have a very limited income, but lots of love and we get to spend tons of time together - which is what life is all about, right?
As for hobbies, I don't have time for much with the farm and the kids. I love homeschooling and playing and doing crafts with the kids. I love to bake and I like to cook. I love to read and write (Can you tell? I tend to ramble.) and I would really like to finish the three books I've started writing. I also love scrapbooking, but I have no time for it.
As for movies, there are too many to mention. I loved the Lord of the Rings and my dh and I just finished the Bourne trilogy, which we also loved. I really like old movies/musicals too.
Well, I hope we all have a great 9 months. I am very excited about it, and happy that I have a place to come and share with others who are going through the same things.
