How cute is this?

My first attempt at a knitted lace pattern (is that what you would consider the brim?).

I used unbleached cotton yarn of unknown origin. It's kinda stiff to work with so I think it's probably something like sugar n' cream. I also see where when I k2tog I should have untwisted the stitch furthest on the right of the needle because that group of stitches is twisted while the group on the opposite side isn't. (the stitches on the left side of the pattern repeat are twisted and the ones on the right aren't... you can see it well if you enlarge the pic). I don't think you could really tell if you didn't know what to look for. I knit continental and always forget how the stitches are "supposed" to be lined up on the needle. I just do it however it knits up fastest for me.

Here's the pattern I used. Saw it and had to try it. I did the open work brim option. THe pic on the blog is of the closed work brim option. It's pretty simple if you use stitch markers for the pattern repeats. I got lost the first time so had to frog 6 rounds and start again.

Summer babe? You're only five minutes postpartum, Fern.

I love the hat.

or... I could just make a bunch for you and then send them up. I do this every pg... think I'm having a girl and then I don't. And as non gender biased as I try to raise my kids, the lace is a bit much for a boy

Having looked at the pattern, the closed-work brim could definitely be GN: I don't think the open-work one is particularly girly, tbh.

Oh adorable! Thank you sooo much for posting a link to the pattern, I decided last night to knit my daughter a hat (since, every hat I knit for the baby she asks if it is for her) but wanted something a little frilly. This is perfect.

aww that is sweet. Although I am going to have to alter it so it has strings to tie as DD is pretty good and pulling hats off. Maybe I'll try to get thsi one done by our trip to FL in March... /ramble

I love this hat! I made one for my daughter in yellow cotton. It washes well and she gets tons of compliments each time she wears it.
