One side is killing me :(

Well, my DS and I had a case of thrush that has now seemed to clear up in both of us. He no longer is fussy, has the white stuff in his mouth, or the diaper rash.

I'm not all itchy down there or anything and my nipples have finally seemed to let up on me - EXCEPT the right nipple... My left one is totally fine and it actually feels good when he eats - but the only way to make the right one feel better is to pump cause when he latches it hurts a lot. My right one was always slower to develop and I'm wondering if it's just sore or what - cause you can't have thrush in just one nipple can you? And if so how fast would it spread to the other one - cause I always switch him between the two so I'm not too lopsided haha

Any suggestions? One of my girlfriends said that I just might be sore...?

TIA

It is possible to have thrush on just one side. What does the pain feel like? Is it the same burning feeling as when you had thrush? Does the right side hurt all the time or only when he latches? Does it get better or worse when he stays latched on? Are there any blisters or cracks on your nipple? Is he latching differently on that side? Does it hurt the same way if you nurse him in different positions, like if you try the football hold or nurse lying down? How did you treat your thrush? I hope you feel better soon!

It feels like pins and needles (not the wonderful let down feeling) like a more sharp pain. It's not nearly as painful as the thrush was but I still have to curl my toes. It only really hurts when he latches and for a little bit afterwards until he gets "into the groove" I guess would be the best way to put it. It does get better the more he eats - but then the next feeding comes for the right side and the latch hurts again. No, I don't have any blisters or cracks... And yeah I didn't notice till you asked but it looks like he latches differently on the right - my nipples aren't completely alike - and it looks like he doesn't take in much of the aureola. When I lie down it's not nearly as bad - I'm terrible at the football hold With the thrush I went on the candida diet for about 2 weeks and took GSE for a couple days and then took sheesh I can't remember what it's called it was this powder stuff (I'm NAK so I can't really get up and get it right at the moment) but essentially I was told that it helps the good bacteria to grow instead of the yeast.

My guess would be that it's the difference in the latch. Sometimes babies do change the way they latch, so he may have gotten lazy on the right side, especially if he's teething or something. I would try to work on that and see if it helps. You may want to try going to a LLL meeting if there's a convenient one. They can look at your latch and give you ideas of how to fix it. If you bring his head in really close (be careful not to bring in his body with it) sometimes that can get him to take in more. You can also try gently pressing down on his chin after he latches to get him to open up and take in a little more. How old is your ds?

5 weeks - where do I find a LLL?

The LLL website is http://www.llli.org/.
There's a dropdown menu at the top for you to choose your country and then state, etc.
FWIW, at 5 weeks my dd was still latching differently because one of my nipples was flatter and larger than the other. It took us awhile to work through it but we did and now our nursing relationship is great.
