How much Shativari do you take? I need more milk desperatly, I've had to start supplementing with formula, and just want to cry.

I'm sorry you are going through this! I don't have any info on shatavari, but if you want to post more details of your supply issues maybe someone can help out. How old is your baby? How did you find out that you have supply issues?

Thank you.. My little love is 6 weeks today. He started pulling off breast after a few minutes to try to start another let down, but there's just not enough milk to come out. Went to go see lactation consultant to figure it out because I thought it was just a latch issue. He was only getting 10 cc's at a feeding and losing weight. I've never been able to pump milk and feed him too, so didn't have any stored breast milk so had to supplement with formula. Makes me feels awful! I want to feed my baby and not use yucky formula but don't want him to be hungry. I've never had lots of milk, but don't know what made it drop so drastically.
I'm feeding and insurance pumping around the clock, taking fenugreek, and drinking mothers milk tea. Went to Indian Market and bought Shativari to capsule but don't know how much to take. Not ready to take prescription drug till I try all herbs first. But really really want my baby off formula and to solely feed him again...

Hang in there! It sounds like you are doing everything you can, and have good LC support. Weight loss is scary.

Was your baby gaining well after birth? Is this a new thing? Did you start any new medications or teas lately (not counting mothers milk tea!) I ask because hormonal birth control pills (even the mini pill), the hormonal IUD, peppermint, sage, parsley, thyme, oregano and lemon balm are all known to decrease milk supply.

I found these threads on shatavari that may help you find more info. Good luck!

and some kellymom info: http://www.kellymom.com/herbal/milks...actagogue.html

Are you able to suppliment at the breast? Here is a nice video from Jack Newman about supplimenting at the breast. It is the very last link on the page (you have to scroll down.)

There's a post from the FAQ stickie at the top of this forum about Shatavari. It is referencing this discussion:

I found it at an Indian/Asian market. It's a big package of the powered herb for $2.99. I am putting it in capsules myself. I'm also taking it with Goat's Rue. I went back to LC today and noticed quite a difference with milk supply. Could be a number of things, but I quit taking Fenugreek because it made me nauseous so I think it's the Shativari that is helping!
