A little help with my studies...

I am studying to be a doula and was working my way though the my assigned readings when I got a little stuck on a question regarding Jaundice in newborns. I understand that to a point it is normal for a full term baby of 3 or 4 days, but at what point does this change? What about a premi? It states if a child is sick, that would be a reason to do something, but then it also says that if the child is sick you probably would not know. I think I just need a little more info to get the full pic here, can anyone help with me? I do have a personal interest in knowing about this due to have been born with "bilirubin poisoning", as my mother put it and I can only think that that would have been because of Jaundice.

I'd suggest you go to drjacknewman.com he has great info there...and if you can't find info on his site that you're looking for, he answers his email personally, and has sent me a chapter from a draft of one of his books or another several times, to help clarify stuff. Hope that helps...I spoke with him at a conference in the spring for some time, and he really helped me to clarify jaundice issues. Good luck!
