I have knit like ahundred umbilical cord hats, tried my own variations, knit a LTK pilot cap(which I could do again, love the pattern) and knit various other hats.
But I want something different and cute. I have about half a skein of my aran worsted weight soaker yarn left after knitting a pair of LTK picky pants, in a nb size. What should I make? Think worsted weight.:

all those hats are pretty cute

I did start on one anime character face hat. It's pretty much just a bonnet with ties and ears. From Hello Yarn. I found it on ravelry. Except, like a dope I rushed through the instructions and did not do a figure 8 cast on, so now I have to go back and sew the top closed. Then at a part where you add decreases for a back of the head curve, I forgot to keep increasing during those rows.lol So mine will be a little different! I also may not add a face. Or maybe add a better one. Dh likes the face idea. I actually was casting off last night, but fell asleep. So now I just have to sew the top, put on ears, and ties.

I really liked and enjoyed making the Beaufort Hat. I made the smallest size and knit it with light worsted weight yarn on size 6 needles. Here's mine on Ravelry.

I am planning on knitting hte hello yarn bonnet that leilalu mentioned. And the sweet baby cap, love that one!

Otherwise I just cast on 56-64 stitches on size 8's and go for it, I'm working on a bear hat right now, all brown & I'll add ears (too bad I lost my notes from the other set of bear ears I worked out last year). I decided to do this one with a ribbed bottom instead of roll brim like I typically do for baby hats.

I just finished one that is blue & white striped, roll brim bottom, seed stitch up to the decreases where I switched back to stockinette.

I have never knit an umbilical cord hat, maybe someday.
