*tentatively waving* Hi.

So..... I think I'm going to homebirth.

I've always wanted to.... but with DD I was scared and single, and so went with a birth center and CNM instead.

Until we found DD's birth defect in a routine ultrasound, and went to a hospital and an OB in the end.

So THIS time around, I still wanted a homebirth. But finances are a stinker, aren't they? I'm on state assistance, and my state has next-to-nada CNMs that do homebirths (as CNMs are the only strictly legal option, and insurance will only -sometimes- cover them).

I'd go with a direct-entry midwife in a heartbeat if I could afford it.

Went to a Conscious Birth Summit the other day and watched TBOBB and met all these wonderful amazing people.... including (drumroll please).... a midwife who just became a CNM this past year (after many years of direct entry) who actually lives in my town and just (like, a week ago!!) opened an actual women's health practice in my town and is accepting Medicaid.

So, I'm in. She's great. Can't wait for our first appointment. We've already "reserved" my due date time on her calendar.

Now I can ask all my silly questions here!!

Just thought I'd de-lurk and celebrate here with you.

Welcome and congrats!

I didn't find my HB MW until 22 weeks...and didn't get to officially join her practice until 27 weeks.

I saw a CNM/OB team locally until than, and was able to transfer just in time--they were getting VERY intervention happy right around that point. Ordering blood test i didn't want, insisting that i should be seeing a specialist since i was requesting a VBAC (duh, two previous VBAC's had already proved i could do it!) and since i turned 35 i was now High Risk (!!!)

I just simply skipped my last few appointments with them to avoid all that crap, and transferred to the HB MW and figured that even if the HB MW had to be paid out of pocket that i would find a way to make payments (and they were super accommodating, they dropped their price significantly for self pay clients, and basically told me (off the record) that if i couldn't pay it would not be the first time that they accepted baked goods and hugs as a form of payment...they believed in what they are doing for momma's and babies!

But i received great news from my insurance company--they are covering it 100%! (full story and sample letter on my website, www.JulianArts.com) So now we get to focus on our gentle birth instead of money or fighting off unwanted intervention or useless labels (high risk b/c of my age---grrrrr)

I hope that you are able to relax and enjoy the rest of this beautiful time in your life! Keep us updated on your home birth journey!
