I've also worried about that line of thinking. I have 2 boys. But honestly, would any rational mother force her child to take an extremely hard path just for her own selfish reasons? AND the child would have to go along with it. The chances of that working out would be very slim, but I guess there are people out there who believe it is possible.
It makes me angry too. IMO it is a silly way of thinking. Kids are way smarter than most people think, and are not that easily manipulated.
I firmly believe that you cannot make a straight person gay and you cannot make a gay person straight - no matter what. You can shame a gay person into hiding the fact that he/she is gay but it will come out eventually. I really don't see how you could make someone transgender either. I'm a woman, and feel like a woman, there is no way on earth that someone could talk me into wanting to be a man. Even as a child.
