Soaker vs shorts

Is there a reason people do soakers as opposed to gusset crotched shorts with short inseams?

I do both . . . however, soakers fit better under clothes , IMO.

I do soakers when I want to be able to put them under clothes. Especially for Abigail, I like being able to put on a soaker and then an entire outfit. I do shorts more for summer when they're going to be worn as an outside garment, paired with a shirt.

Yeah that to both of the PPs.

Can you explain what part fits better under clothes?

Well, think about a pair of jeans for my 2 year old . . . it's less bulky to have a soaker over the diaper only as opposed to the diaper cover having legs and taking up leg room in the jeans and making it overly bulky. Soaker fits only over the diaper--no extra.

Most soakers have cuffs though. So are you referring to cuff less soakers?

I make soaker cuffs to fit really close to the leg. . . like the waist. The shorts I make are loose enough to look like normal shorts. . . .maybe it's because my kids have little chicken legs that there's such a difference.

For a soaker I'd like to go under clothes nicely, the cuff I make is *usually* just two rounds of single crochet around or something that's not really all that significant in length at all.

Shorts extend down further than the whole "diaper area", if you will and are a bit looser.

Hmm so in theroy I can do a really short inseam and a smaller needle by maybe 3 sizes? The reason I am asking is the soaker has a bunch of kitchener stitching plus a bunch of picked up stitches for the cuffs. It just seems more productive to do a pant style with a small gusset, tight cuffs and limited kitchener than all the extra work in a soaker.
