Gifts for midwives...?

I'm wondering how to work this. We're working with a team of 2 midwives, 1 of which will be present at our birth (whomever is on call that day/night). In addition there will be at least one, though probably 2, midwives in training present. They are all lovely women! Do I purchase a gift for just the midwife present at the birth of our child or do I purchase something for everyone? I've heard of putting together a gift basket to take to or have delivered to the birth center.

What did or are you doing?

I'm in this getting ready mode and would really like to check this off of my list of things to do.

Also, any gift suggestions? How much $$ are you planning to spend?

I bought a nice frame for, maybe $8 - $10 or so and put a picture that was taken of all of us together right after the birth and gave that to the midwife at the 6w pp visit. I did not get a gift for the assistant(s)

That's an interesting question. My first and second midwives that saw for me throughout my pregnancy were both at my birth so I only had 2 to consider. I found awesome gifts at a website called attachmentscatalog.com They've got tons of really neat books, jewelry, little statues, just things you wouldn't see every day. They do have some pricier items but lots of cute earrings, necklaces, books for 20.00 or less. I think midwives, assistants and students all love getting pictures of the families and babies they work with. Sometimes a picture and a heartfelt card is the best gift.

I've been wondering about this also. I plan to give all three of my midwives a bottle of the apple wine I'm currently making and they have all expressed an interest in, but I was wonding also if I should give them something more.

We had two students who were helpers -- one cared for my two older kids (5 and 3) and was amazing, the other took pictures and was also amazing. We gave them each a $150 AMEX gift card (I wish I could have paid both of them 10x that -- they were incredible presences for us). Since I wanted to acknowledge my midwife's family's contribution, we sent them some nice fruit and cheese and chocolates from Harry and David.

At the birth itself, I had ordered an Edible Arrangement for everyone to eat (m/w's sister was here, too) and I put a lentil soup in the crockpot before things got too intense for me. No one was hungry and my kids especially enjoyed the fruit!

I made a donation to midwives for midwives in her honor. I also got her a GC to Amazon, and a smaller GC to Amazon for both of the wonderful apprentices who were there.

I too did Harry and David for the midwife and her assistant who does office work not births. I spent about $50 I believe.

I gave them each an unbreakable mirror in little cloth pouches I made for their birth kits. It was really helpful for me when I saw my son'e head crowning in a mirror I had. We talked about hoe they used to carry them but they always got broken.
