Ugh - my poor nephew

Thread Starter
My BIL and SIL have tried for 8 years to become pregnant, and last Wednesday their first child was born. I sent her so much information on why not to mutilate this poor child, she told me that she read up at noharmm and "couldn't watch the video" about it. Dh is talking to my BIL on the phone now and he told him that he was cut yesterday.

My heart just breaks for this poor baby. (As it does for all babies that have gone throught this) Welcome to the world, little one.

am i nuts, or to have something be so awful it's unwatchable, perhaps an indication that you shouldn't make your baby *live* thru it? i never, never could understand this one. if you can watch it, if you can hold your baby down while it happens, well, that's still pretty miserable in my book; but the lack of respect i feel for people who make their babies go thru torture they couldn't even bear to WATCH is just indescribable. i wish god would just zap himself into the equation and say, 'hey, you want to do this to a little baby? ok, you FIRST.' poor little babies.

That's terrible. I can't believe she could read that site and still circ her new baby boy like that.

I want to try to persuade my SIL not to circ her next baby (due in Feb.) if it's a boy (they won't find out ahead of time), but dh doesn't want me to send them a link to a video...because it would be too confrontational. Well, duh, if you can't bear to watch it, then you shouldn't do it!

I'm really sorry for your nephew. You tried your best - good for you!

It would be one thing if this were required surgery- like repairing a serious injury in the ER, for example. Then I can see not wanting to watch or see a video "before" or whatever. Just do what needs doing. The issue is that this is neither required nor emergency and THAT is why parents do it and don't watch. Out of sight out of mind. In fact, I have a section on this at my site at http://www.CircumcisionQuotes.com/ On the one hand, the mentality boggles the mind. On the other hand, its patently clear as a survival technique.

I'm sorry for your nephew, but almost MORE sorry for his mother. She KNEW (if she didn't have any idea, she wouldn't have refused to watch the video), yet she still let him go through it.
