Kitchen Witch - Page 2

When we do the garlic treatment I don't cook the garlic...we use it raw. Amazing business that. I have never had it not work. I jsut do it once, at night. I use a particular method. We put the feet in the hottest water they can stand. Then apply the raw garlic and olive oil in a poultice. Cover with a cold wet sock and cover that with a wool sock. Remove in the morning. By then the fever is gone. Or the congestion...whichever you are trying to address! It works for almost any acute illness. Again, we use affirmations as well, along with anointing. The oil depends on the iindividual.

Onion is another go to for illness in my house...specifically for ear infection and pain. You have never seen anything clear pain faster in ears than onion juice. We use affirmations whilst applying.

We also use mustard for anything chest related. A mustard pack can mobilize even the most persistent case of bronchitis.

Rosemary is another amazing herb for anything chest related. When my sister used to get chest congestion and wracking coughs I would hang a sheet in my kitchen and boil rosemary on the stove. We would jsut sit in my rosemary sauna and let her chest clear.

We also use honey for EVERYTHING! Cuts, bruises, burns, toothaches, infection, allergies etc. We have hives and it is a very spiritual process for us. We are very connected to our bees.

firefairy, could you talk w/ me a bit more about mustard...or mustard seeds? I just bought some for healing...have no idea what to do w/ it...

Thank you all for such wonderful bits of information. I plan on printing this thread out in a week or so and putting it in a book. One questions though, how did you learn about the oil, garlic, honey, mustard, etc and what you could do with them? Is this folk remedies pasted down? From a book? or just all intuition?

This is beautiful! I am so excited about this thread. I tried to post last night, but all was lost at some point. I have never really felt comfortable in the kitchen, but I want to be. I think making the simple tasks in my life spiritual is just the key. I will embrace these tasks and honor them as well.

Thank you! Thank you, BurtsGirl for starting this.... I am subbing!

And along those notes, can you explain how you make a raw garlic/olive oil poultice on the feet? I'm new to the idea of making poultices and wonder how it is done, especially on the feet.

For me, I get a lot from reading- there is tons of cool history on the web and here are a couple books, in addition to the olive book I mentioned earlier, that come to mind:

Michael Pollan's Botany of Desire and Omnivore's Dilemma
Mark Kurlansky's Salt: A World History
Judith Berger's Herbal Rituals: Recipes for Everyday Living

Another part of it, for me, is spending lots of time with the plants- getting to know them.

Anyone have recommendations for upset stomaches or stomach flu?

nak

you are welcome and thank all of you for joining us tonight (and day...and EVERY day) to make this thread a reality, and a dream come true.

As for "how I know this", I just pick it up along the way. I read a lot. I "intuit" ( I also make up new words. lol) I talk to a lot of wise mamas out there. I live in a country that still keeps it's "ancient wisdom"...I watch my mother and mil. I delve into my Jewish Witchy roots. I listen a lot. I ask a lot of not-so-stupid questions (okay, and maybe some of the other kind as well). I let the REAL pros lead the way. I trust myself. I believe in HaShem (G-d, be that the female or male aspect of that One G-d) and I believe that HaShem (literally, in Hebrew "The Name") is the everpresent and TRUE and only healer, so I just try to use Her/His tools in our world to manifest that. (I look in nature and what do I see..growing in the ground, coming up to meet me? A cure for the common cold? A pain reliever? You get the picture).

I believe in energies and the powers/spark of HaShem in ALL things and try to combat the not so nice with the "nicer".

dd's been sick so almost without thinking I pealed some garlic, squeezed it a little, and set it outside of her windowsill. Also tossed one out the front door. My mil does this, my grandmother did it. It's ancient wisdom and it WORKS!

The garlic clove came right back in when I threw it out...right up against the door. I left it there. Its still outside, but you can't get in the house without passing it...

Salt works too. But different energies...so one must "intuit" which one to use...and how to use it.

Well, I hate to give too much info and gross out the thread!

To make it short, the whole family has had a stomach flu that manifests as vomiting or diarrhea or both. The symptoms are short lived, but reoccur.

I'm trying to think of ways to beat this bug and bring our digestive system back in balance. Thanks for your help!

It's a bit of everything. I have the knowledge from using natural medicine for a LONG time. I've read alot because this is what I do and I want clinical knowledge as well as folk wisdom. Intuition tells me what is the right treatment for each person. I have several things in my arsenal that can address, say an acute infection. What I suggest will depend on that person's vibration and deeper needs. Does that make sense?

Bone broths, pascalite clay and a castor oil pack. The wet sock treament (ie garlic foot rub) will also help.

I light a candle. In a bowl next to the candle I infuse pressed garlic in olive oil...no heat. We say a blessing. An hour or so later I take 2 strips of flannel up to the bathrooom with the garlic oil and candle. I draw a bath and let the kids put their feet in. I make it as hot as they can stand.

We then move to the bedroom. I wrap the flannel once around their feet and place the garlic oil (about 1T per foot) on top of the wrap. I continue wrapping-usually the strips go around the foot 4 times or so. After that I cover it with a cold wet sock. Then a dry wool sock goes over it. We do EFT, so we do our affirmations in that way and the kiddo (or affected person) blows the candle out.

By the morning it's almost always over. THe only thing you want to watch out for is that the garlic when raw cannot go directly on the feet. That one layer of fabric is essential.

Sure! I grind the seeds by hand (it just feels better that way!) I use a mortar and pestle. I use maybe a T. of mustard, a t. ginger, 3 T. flour and water to make a paste. I spread it on a flannel, or have the person put on an old T shirt and spread it across their chest. I then put a hot washcloth or water bottle over it.

It only takes about 5 minutes before you start coughing up the gunk. The danger here again is burning the skin so you need to monitor it. I would never leave it on longer than 15 minutes. I aim for 10. For kiddos 3-5 minutes will suffice.

I find mustard is best used in pastes and poultices. You can do mustard baths though.

The pastes have been used to treat a number of things: chest congestion from colds, flu, and bronchitis, as well as bronchial pneumonia, sinusitis, pleurisy, lumbago, and sciatica. I've even had luck using it in asthma attacks. I did this for a little boy I know when he was in rough shape. A mustard pack along with water with MSM and liquid oxygen worked wonders. She was shocked.

Thank you, all! I'm going to try the garlic oil foot rub- my dds will love it!

I was thinking about chakras and I'm really going to meditate on the sacral and solar plexus chakras as I am making dinner tonight. We have been eating white, bland foods- rice and tofu mostly. Tonight we're having cous cous with pinenuts- I'm going to add cumin, ginger, cardamom and anise- all of which are good for digestion.

I was just reading- water boiled with fennel seeds, a little salt and sugar is good to fight off dehydration when there is vomiting or diarrhea. Great idea! Fennel grows around our house- it reseeds all over and is very lovely!
