At 3:14 ish this morning I gave birth to Archimedes, my 4th son, and my dp caught him! Labor lasted about 2 1/2 hours.
We called the midwife to give her an update and while on the phone with her things changed and got intense and I said she should come on over. She was about 2 hours away. About an hour after calling her I knew she would not make it. I got the shakes, then got hot, then had to hang on dp, then stripped off my clothes and then felt pushy all in about an hour and a halfs time.
I birthed him on my hands and knees and massaged my labia to help stretch to accomidate his head. I knew in that position that I was more likely to tear but I had better access to him and I couldnt get comfortable any other way. After his head came out I noticed the cord was around his neck a bit and dp said it was very slack and that it wasnt a problem. I waited for the shoulders and reached in to help them out and then decided to roll on my side to help pop them out. It worked and it was a wonderful sensation to feel his body slip out of me.
He breathed and wiggled right away and nursed vigorously from the start and hasnt really stopped since then.
My midwife came and helped clamp the cord and give me a couple of stitches and I dont even know how many. it was a first degree tear all on the outside and very minor. We took a bath and then got cozy and chatted for a while. I havent slept much but my older boys all slept through the birth even though I roared like a beast for quite a while and I must say it was helpful and invigorating.
One funny thing was that while hanging on dp he kept flexing his muscles and in the middle of horrendous contractions I was thinking how hot he is!!
So Archimedes was born weighing in at 8lbs 12 oz (about 2 lbs bigger than what I thought he would be) and labor was started after having sex 3 times for an hour each time. That was the thing to do. The castor oil 4 days ago and all the other mumbo jumbo didnt do a thing but doing the deed sure got things rolling! Anyways my bum hurts sitting in this chair but I wanted to share the condensed version of our birth story!
I wish you all the best and I hope those of you still waiting have your babies soon!
