Need help, which nappy is for me?

Ok, this is a very broad question but we're starting to try for our next baby
and all you mama's have given me the hope of using cloth nappies this time
around.
I'm not a fantastic sewer but would give it a go, but I have to be honest and
say looking through all these threads on cloth nappies makes my head spin
and I don't know any one who actually uses them.

So getting to the question or questions
Can someone explain
*What is the difference between pre-folds, fitteds and All in Ones?
*Do you have to use covers for all of them or just certain ones?
*How do you care for them?
*What is the go with absorbers in pockets on the inside?
and a million other questions that I can't quite get out at the moment.
Thanks Heaps
Cassie
Also I live in Sydney, Australia so if anyone knows where I can get nappy specific supplies that would be great too.

AIOs do not require a separate cover. They're like a diaper and cover sewn together.
Fitteds are just an absorbent fabric diaper - they require a cover.
Flats/ Chinese prefolds are rectangles of absorbent fabric that need to be folded (minimaly) and require a cover also.

In the Stickies at the top of this forum there are lots of great resources.
HTH a little at least

Try checking out www.diaperpin.com for lots of general info on cloth diapers- its either listed as FAQ's or Cloth 101 or something like that. It takes some time to understand all the lingo and stuff. I would also go to a few "diaper shops" online (links at the diaper pin), and just look through some pages, the pictures will help.

OTMomma That NZ site is fantastic, thankyou so much for finding that link for me. I was able to find all the kinds of information I was after and hopefully will make it to the shops for some material tomorrow to give it a go.

I HIGHLY recommend the Rita's Rump Pocket pattern. It's free, she's really cool and you can do whatever you want with it! It's a one size fits all pattern that requires one pin in the center. It's a breeze to make and super cheap. I have made some from old flannel baby blankets. I love that pattern!
I also really like the Mile High Monkey's pull up fleece or wool cover pattern. Also very easy to sew, and cheap to buy as well!

OK, you are the sweetest!!! And that is my favorite combo also (and what my little guy is napping in as we speak).

If you want to use just free patterns, you can use the Nappy Network's Wee Weka training pants pattern http://www.thenappynetwork.org.nz/im...a_Knickers.pdf and make it out of fleece for a great cover. That fits pretty much from a few months on until 1-2 years old. I literally printed out the pattern at 75% or so and it fit a newborn like a glove. If you make the waistband a bit wider then it fits until PTing pretty much. It is similar to the Mile High Monkey, but is more like little shorts, so it is really cute by itself, but still trim enough under cloths. I also make these out of old cashmere or wool sweaters and they are so nice.

If you want some diapers with velcro (use aplix, order online, it is so much cheaper and better), then make the Rita's Rump Cover with a fleece outer/cotton or microfleece inner, and make it into a pocket and stuff it with anything cotton (including prefolds, cheap prefold from walmart, kitchen towels, etc.).

Check out my siggy for the link to the patterns!
