BabyMac was born Jan 28 at 3:45am, via emergency c-section. After three days of labor, Riley Elizabeth, decided to present her butt to the world literally, she was a "frank breech." Our midwife checked me at 6cms and said she felt her butt, so we decided to go to Sacred Heart Hospital's birth center, they recommended an emergency section, and honestly after all of my efforts, to keep things natural, it was the best decision for making sure Riley arrived safely. I am sitting on the hospitals computer, it is an awesome facility, and everyone here has been super helpful, and have respected our wishes for least intervention with Riley's care. However, she developed jaundice, and is being kept in the nursery under lamps. It turns out our blood is incompatible, and she was exposed to my blood during labor. I asked the nurse how they would normally handle a birth with this complication, and she said, there is absolutely nothing the mother or doctor can do to prevent it. I wish things could have gone differently for our birth, but we are so happy that Riley is healthy, and in our arms. She is having a little trouble holding down my colostrum, so we are going to try to get her to feed in a few hours, keeping my fingers crossed her tummy is less upset...she has had a rough first day...me, too!
