Need Help With BF Research Please!

Thread Starter
So, I'm doing an cultural anthropology paper tentatively titled "That's What Boobs Are For?: Public Breastfeeding and the Sexualization of Breasts in America."

So....I was wondering if anyone out there in the lactivism universe knew of any good resources for studying such a topic. Has anyone come across a study on public breastfeeding, or come across an offensive op-ed piece about how BFing in public is gross. I'm interested in both sides of the coin.

Also, if anyone is from, or has recently been to another country (especially a "western" country), what is their perception of public BFing? I'm wondering if countries like Sweden, Germany, France, Spain, etc. have the same hang-ups about breasts when it comes to public breastfeeding. If not, do you have any ideas where our hang-ups originated? As far back as the Puritans? Or has our consumeristic society rendered BFing (and by extension, the breast) "low-class" (you know, "that's gross, can't you afford formula?")?

I may have chosen a topic that is a little too close to home, but I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks, ladies, for any leads that you are able to give me!

While I don't have any info or links to offer, I just wanted to say good luck! There needs to be more research done, so that the medical community and society is more accepting of us BreastFeeders!

*YEAH 500!!!*

Some books for you to check out, if you haven't already:
Milk, Money, and Madness and Mother's Milk. Almost anything by Rima Apple is sure to be helpful. I'd also be happy to give you the perspective of an American breastfeeding in a country where breasts are not commercial products. Feel free to email or PM me.

I have several scholarly journal articles on this topic, please PM me with your email address & I will email them to you. There is actually quite a bit out there in the psychology literature, do have someone to help you with an academic literature search?
