My OB/GYN has been on the show and their practice advertises for couples interested in being on the show. I also know two (bfing) families who have done it.

I agree w/ a PP that said she spent the first two weeks in PJ bottoms only. I wonder how many people are derailed by having the cameras around and being uncomfortable NIP. I have to admit : that I almost became a person who "could not" BF b/c I supplemented in the hospital when the parade of visitors came through. I hadn't read anything about BFing. I didn't know anything about BFing. I didn't even know how long babies BF -- 6 weeks??? So I perhaps other first time parents don't really know what they are getting into and the cameras don't help.

ALL the more reason to have more positive BFing stories on these mainstream shows. Like other's have said, it's not my thing, but I'd encourage others to set the example.

What gets me is the woman narrating. "Will breastfeeding get any better or is mom doomed to fail?" (or some variation) every freaking time. That is all TLC.

These shows infuriate me. I tried to watch one today and got so pissed off that I threw my remote at the tv. I can't watch them anymore.

I agree with the suggestion that we contact TLC and see if they can provide info on LLL at the end of each episode, and maybe ask them to not have the voice-over be all doom and gloom about BF every episode. I have screamed at the TV over this kind of crap more than once...
On a good note, I was flipping through channels a couple days ago and caught the end of a show (I think it was bringing home baby) and I had to stop because I saw she was putting a cloth diaper on a baby!!!! CPF with a snappi no less - and then they showed her BFing and talking about how great it was- I was almost in shock as it was so not the norm for these kind of shows - then they showed the family going to a baby yoga class together - it was awesome!

I actually cried when they had the preemie episode recently- seeing her open her freezer with all those 2 oz bottles of frozen EBM- and her struggles to get her lil guy to latch- it was the first time I related to one of those shows AT ALL.

I would *love* to see more of these shows with babies who have challenges. I am still EPing after 8 months of trying to nurse, and I resent the crap out of the women who give up on BF because 'it's so hard' after a few days. You don't know jack about 'so hard'.

If they travel here I'd love to be on the show or baby diaries. Just can't see where to sign up! I'm probably out of area tho.

Has anyone seen The Baby Diaries on Discovery Health? I don't watch baby shows, but I happened to stop on this one the other day. They were featuring this couple who apparently are the type that likes everything to be scheduled because they had an actual OB/GYN lecturing that breastfeeding must be on demand, and not scheduled. He went on to say that if the baby wanted to eat every two hours "that's the way it's gonna be" He really seemed knowledgeable. How refreshing.
i saw this too... it was such a nice surprise to hear him saying that!

*sigh* I used to watch these shows, but rarely do anymore. It's frustrating to see all of the induced mamas and epidurals and scheduled c-sections and emerg. c-sections due to the inducing meds...not to mention the lack of support in breastfeeding and the "ads" for formula and other things. What kills me is the times that a mom chooses to breastfeed then is talking to the camera saying "The Dr. said I have to supplement with fomula because my milk hasn't come in yet", or "I have to express the colostrum and mix it with sugar water and bottlefeed because my milk hasn't come in yet." So sad. What's the average time for milk to come in...2-3 days? That's what colostrum is for...there's not much of it, but it's packed with awesome goodies for the baby...what on earth did mamas do back in the "old days" before formula??? If babies were going to starve in the 2-3 days that it takes for milk to come in, the human race wouldn't have made it!!! Surely Dr.'s must've been taught this in medical school?!? I wish these channels would consider the advice in the letters sent to them about offering LLLI info, etc.
