Zoloft

Please give me some feedback on Zoloft? Particularly if you were on it for anxiety. What was your dosage, did you like it, side-effects, did you bf on it? Thanks.

I was on 25 mg through nursing my first ds, and then went up to 50 mg when this baby was born. It's been fine. No effects on the kiddos at all, and it has helped me SO much with depression and anxiety/OCD. The only thing I can say is that it does make losing weight a bit tougher, but I also have not started working out yet. It makes me a little d rowsy at 50 mg sometimes, but that's it. The benefits far outweigh the side effects.

Wanted to add that you might get some nausea and dire rears at first. Also, it can make your anxiety a little worse for a week or so. Then you will notice that you are feeling lots better.

I'm on 100mg/daily for depression. I've been on it for nearly a year after switching from Lexapro. Currently nursing 2 wk old DD.

Thanks for the responses. Aarons mom, did you have side-effects? I am REALLY hoping that it doesn't keep me from losing weight. I took my first pill last night and felt very nauseated, but it went away after a bit.

I have been on Zoloft for about 3 months for OCD. I absolutely love it. I started on 50 mg and am now on 75. The first week or so I had nausea and dry mouth, but those side effects went away.

I feel like someone has installed a firewall in my head. The intrusive, repetitive thoughts are just completely blocked. But normal thoughts are not blocked. I also feel less anxious and stressed in general. Dh and I do not fight anymore (and we were fighting all the time--on the brink of divorce actually) and I no longer yell at my kids. Ds has Asperger's or anxiety or both--we're awaiting a dx--and his symptoms were much much worse when I was yelling at him. Things are SOOOO much better now.

I am on 200mg a day, I have been for a couple years now. I had really bad intrussive thoughts after my second child was born. It has been a lifesaver. The only side effect I had was being tired the first few weeks, but I adjusted. Also if I take it on an empty stomach it tends to make me a little sick. I have been diagnosed with OCD and love Zoloft, it makes me a better mom. I would also encourage you not to judge it until you have been on it for 6 weeks or so. It takes awhile to really kick in.

I started mine a few days ago and I'm really hoping this will quell my overwhelmingly frightening anxiety. My mouth is SO dry and I kind of feel a bit buzzed. Hopefully these symptoms will go away!

Yes, the dry mouth and buzzed sensation goes away. It will give way to MUCH better feelings and so much more stability. Keep the faith.

this is me. I started in June. I'm taking 150 mg. I love it!! I was also diagnosed at that time (OCD) and that has helped A LOT!! I took celexa after my dad died, and it was BAD NEWS. I am also tandeming my 4 yo and 20 mo, with no effects (except a much happier mom) The dizziness and dry mouth went away after a while. The nausea took a bit longer (I lost 20 lbs., but that is good, because I am overweight)

The one bad thing is I have NO SEX DRIVE. None, zip, zilch, zero. I know the bf-ing has to do with it, but i have no desire AT ALL. I'm working on it.

Knew someone on 150 mg, very close to this person.

Sexual side effects were the worst which lead to more depression.

Did nothing for anxiety.

I hadn't heard about the sexual side-effects. I'm single, so it's not like I'm getting any, but I wish I'd known anyway!

You may not have that part of it. Some people get the sexual side effects, some don't. It's not a reason not to take the medication, if you need it.

Zoloft works great for my anxiety. It has helped with depression and OCD tremendously, too. I hope you get the same results!

No, but if it worsens your depression then it's worth switching meds. At least it was for the person I know.

Yes, I can see how it could make the situation worse, but at least I'm single now so I don't have to worry about it much. Hell, this may be good. It's kind of depressing to have a sex drive and no one to share it with!
: yes, yes it is.

And your right, in a situation where sex isn't a usual thing, or shared with someone, then I can see why it wouldn't be an issue.

Of course, for this person and their DP, they'd always been rather "regular" in that department, so it was a bit hit to their relationship, her ego, and his ego!!

I started out on 20/25mg and over the course of a year, I was on the max dosage w/ declining results. I decided to wean myself off and it was awful. I had 'rushes' where it felt like I was fast forwarding a second or two, was dizzy and had terrible headaches.

There ARE ways to help anxiety and depression w/o medications. Changes in diet and exercise can be a BIG help along w/ certain supplements.

I've been managing my anxiety without medication for two years now. I did pretty well, but recently my external stressors have become so extreme that I've lost 25 pounds in the past 2 months, I'm sleeping 3 hours a night and it's getting hard to care for my baby. This was a last resort for me and I feel that I've made the choice that I had to make for my son.

Often, the "natural" ways are just not enough. I tried all of the things in the Mood Cure, and still found that I needed meds. That's just my experience. There is no perfect solution.

Wow. I was on 50mg and decided that it wasn't helping, so I took myself off of it. I know that wasn't the best choice, but I wasn't thinking right. I also got the rushes and bad headaches. I didn't think it had anything to do with that. hmm...thanks.
