Looking for info from other birth professionals. What do you use/How do you clean Jacuzzi tub after waterbirth and do you have any literature to support it, I need to educate someone about it and she likes literature.

Is she the only one using it?

If it's the birth center jacuzzi, we scoop out whatever clots/stuff is left behind, scrub with soft scrub, rinse, fill with cold water, add 1/2 cup Clorox bleach and run the jets for 20 minutes.

if it's the mom's own jacuzzi, we scrub with whatever cleaner she uses, fill with cold water, and run the jets for 20 minutes, with or without bleach, her choice.

I don't have any lit on it, just that bleach kills just about everything.

Its in the birth center, and thats what we do, but she wanted to know how many parts per million we get in the water, I figure if bleach kills HIV it should kill everything. The only othe rthing I found was filling the tub, using 1/2 cup of cascade and run for 10 minutes. This was a hospital, and they culture their jets every month and never have a positive culture, so Just wondering if cascade is better than bleach?

Cascade is basically lye and chlorine bleach, so, I don't think it makes much of a difference.

shock and run then drain
then refill and use the normal chemicals

I came across this article when I was researching this topic a few months back. http://www.infectioncontroltoday.com.../231feat1.html Perhaps a soaking tub, without jets, is a safer option.
