Anyone have any great patterns? I'd love to do some socks with laceweight yarn and small needles. (I got 000s for Xmas!!).

OMG!

Are you looking to make yourself go blind?!

Makes my hands ache just thinking about it! I'd check over at knitty.com, in the coffeeshop forums. There's one specifically for sock knitting. Good luck!

Oh, where did you (well, the person who got them for you) find them!?! I'd love to try that too! I can't stand the feel of all the purl bumps on the sole of my foot, and I keep thinking that I need to find tiny needles and try making socks from lace weight yarn.
If you're not looking for anything fancy, you could just find a generic sock 'recipe', and alter it for the gauge you get. If you want something a little fancier, take the same sock pattern, find a stitch pattern you like, alter it for knitting in the round, do a swatch, check gauge, and then work out the number of stitches you need based on your 'recipe', taking into account how many stitches you need for the pattern repeat.
I'd love to hear more about what you decide to do and how it works out!

I found my 000's in a Joann's in a pack of 1, 0, 00, and 000 - 5 of each.

I tried the MaryElla from Knitty (done on size 0000s) and, frankly, it was a big PITA. You're very brave to attempt socks. I never did finish my cool wristwarmer .

I just did a pair of socks w/ the Universal Toe-Up sock pattern from Knitty, and I was incredibly surprised to discover that A) It did not suck one little bit and B) It was actually kind of fun to do the "calculating" and measurements.

I didn't like the feel of purl stitches under my feet on size 3 needles, but it seems ok on size 1 needles. I've also heard that you can make your socks so that you have the knit stitches on the inside and the purls on the outside on the sole of the sock. I think I'm going to try that too.

One of my first knit projects was from this pattern, on size 0000 needles. It wasn't that hard, once I got used to tensioning the skinny yarn, and the result is gorgeous.

I've made them on size 0 needles, and I'm still really bothered by the bumps. I've been thinking about trying to make them 'inside out' and put the purls on the outside, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. It also could be that I'm allergic to wool, so have had to use cotton sock yarn. I've been thinking I may try cashmere, which I'm miraculously not allergic to, and see if the 'squishier' yarn helps at all.

Thanks all! I'm still on the waiting list for ravelry, but I will check the link out asap. MaryElla looks like fun! I think I might give it a try.

I haven't tried knitty's universal toe-up but I love toe-up socks and I would love to give it a try.

Good luck!! You must have sooo much patience. I have one (1) size 0 left after trying them out and breaking them all within about 2 inches of knitting. The sock was looking so beautiful and silky, but my hands just could not grasp how gentle they needed to be (bad pun).

I would put my money on it being a problem attributable to the cotton yarn. I have really sensitive feet, and my wool socks made on size 2 and 3 needles don't bother me. The yarn is, as you say, squishier than cotton would be.

I almost always use size 0 needles for socks and they feel great on myfeet - and they don't wear out as quickly as socks knit on bigger needles!

I haev another sock to finish on my dpn's and then I am going to buy a 100 cm long Addi circ needle for making two socks at one time. I love my rosewood dpn's for socks, but I think I need to make the move to something that will get me to finish pairs of socks, not just individual socks

How small do those Addi circs come?
