Well to lighten things up a bit...I went to WIC today... - Page 2

Mix in a young mother's want for some freedom and formula becomes very attractive. Just leave the baby with mom and dad and go out.
I guess it's more common among young moms, but having worked as a nanny, I kniow that there are a lot of highly educated, married women who have the same attitude or worse about having freedom. I don't understand it at all. I'm young, & the worst part of my day is when I kiss my ds goodbye and leave for work. I HATE that I'm missing out on time w/him that I can never get back. why woul I then want to pawn him off on someone AGAIN at night so I could go out? If it's baby-friendly, he goes w/me. If not, I stay home. I chose to have this baby and its MY job to raise him, not my mom or some other caregiver. all other issues (like my social life) are secondary. I just don't get it.

I asked about making it harder to get formula if a woman CAN breastfeed and she was saying there is no way they would do that. She was telling me that they have a lot of problems getting women to breastfeed past 3 months. She also said they have a lot of people who REFUSE to breastfeed. Period. They don't even want to talk about it.
Here is my solution if they won't limit the access to free formula:reward the bf'ing moms. say wic spends $100/month on a formula fed baby. so for an ebf baby, give mom just HALF that money in "limited food stamps." they would have to create a more extensive list of acceptable foods, like fresh fruits/veggies, pasta, soymilk, etc that are not on standard wic checks. you could use it just like casdh to get the foods of your choice (from within that list). that would ensure that they aren't taking the cash and spending it on ice cream, chips and pepsi (or formula). and wic would STILL save money on the bf-ing moms. all i get for ebfing is 3 cans of tuna & a jar of PB. i can assure you that it was NOT that glorious reward that propmted me to choose breastfeeding.

[QUOTE/]I think that here there is a mandatory breast feeding class to receive pregnancy benefits. That's GREAT!

yeah, wic classes are a load of crap. i had to go for a nutrition education class and it was a 15-minute video that featured SINGING VEGETABLES. the video was hosted by ben broccoli or something, who chatted with charlie carrot about how great veggies are. any reasoniing adult should have been insulted. I'm sure the bf-ing class is no better.

What I think is funny is how many "poor" people know what expensive designer stuff looks like, and me, "Little Miss Middle Class Housewife", has not a clue how to tell the difference between Dolce & Gabbana and Coach with out looking at the tags on the inside.

I carry a purse that I paid $15 for at Kohl's last April. For my birthday this coming April, I might get another. Or maybe I will make a purse. And then sell it for $300 as a "designer original".
