I have PUPPPs :(

I just got back from my appt with my OB, my itching has gotten steadily worse and she told me today that looking at it it definitely looks like PUPPPs.
I'm so miserable, I just want to crawl out of my skin and sleep for a while because I get no rest with all of this itching!!!
Someone told me that dandelion root tea might help so I'm going to try that, if that doesn't work I am going to take some benedryl so I can get some rest. She did say that if it doesn't get better with creams and the benedryl that she wants me to see a dermatologist.

Anyone else have any suggestions??

Other than me being miserable baby is nice and happy and growing well. I just feel like I've entered a dimension in hell, it is that bad!

Oh I'm so sorry! I wish I had advice!

I'm not in your DDC, but I saw your post when I went to check on mine. I had PUPPPS with my son, I really feel for you. Aveeno oatmeal baths and Baking Soda baths seemed to help, I took about 3 a day. I bought the DDR tea, but then read it was high in Vitamin A so I never used it (I was early on when my PUPPS showed up).
I've heard that Acupuncture can work well. Benadryl did nothing for me, I tried it once only. I wasn't all that thrilled at taking it, but i was desperate. Are you having a boy? I also read that excessive intake of citrus can aggravate it. And, don't use any scented or cocoa butter lotions either! That is all the advice I can give you! good luck.

Maybe homeopathy?

i read all about PUPPS when i thought i had it due to developed allergy to cocoa butter. I was so scared, it sounded awful.

That to say, i am so sorry you're going thru this, it must totally suck.

Well I gave in last night and took some benedryl. I had only slept 8 hours in 3 days and I was so miserable, I am scratching myself raw and basically being a real b***h to my family. I caved and took some and slept like a baby for a good 5 hours, it was heaven. Of course I woke up itching but it felt good to finally sleep!

I am so sorry, that must be very difficult. A friend of mine went through the same thing with her pregnancy last year.

PUPPPS soap

I just remembered something else. I bought this soap online when I had PUPPS and I think it really did help it. I couldn't be 100% sure, but a week or so after I started using it, it did start to clear up.

Here is where I got it - http://www.rainiersoapworks.com/puppp_relief.htm

Oh wow! Thank you so much for that link! I'm going to order some and see if it helps. I had an absolutely miserable night last night, so much so that I cannot imagine going 10 more weeks with this

hi, i'm usually a lurker (2 year old keeps me too busy) but i had to respond to your post about PUPPPS.

i had it horribly with ds#1 and i really thought i was going to die by the end of my pregnancy. i cried all day because i was so itchy and raw. i was a miserable mess.

i started to develop it again at the beginning of this pregnancy and said to myself, "i cannot do this again. i will not do this again." i researched and it all came back to my diet. i have ABSOLUTELY NO PUPPPS this time around. in fact, by belly is smooth and beautiful!!

what i did: cut out every single processed food from my diet. i eat no flour, nothing from a package, no pasturized milk, and right now, no grains. what's happening is this stuff is clogging up your liver and you're having a hard time filtering it out, so it's coming through your skin. i would highly recommend eating only meats, fruits, veggies, nuts/seeds, good fats - raw cream and raw butter if you feel comfortable - and try dandelion root tea to help your liver. try it for one week and you will notice a difference.

i hate to even think about anyone suffering from PUPPPS. you can get rid of it naturally and your baby will surely benefit from your healthy eating.

good luck.

Thank you, I actually picked up some dandelion root tea yesterday and started drinking it so we'll see if it makes a difference.

I had gastric bypass surgery 2 years ago and my diet is very limited so basically I only eat meat, veggies, a little fruit and very little carbs. So I don't think it's my diet because if I eat carbs or sugar I get very sick so I try to stay away from them.

sorry to hear. i had it and kukui nut oil helped me a ton. had to buy over the internet in hawaii. it was recommended to me from someone with eczema.
sarna lotion helped a bit too.

also when you scratch, use a wash cloth and not your finger nails. it'll save some scarring. i have a bunch of scars all over my legs

I am so so sorry mama.

I had it with my first child very badly. I second the oatmeal bath. There is also a special soap for PUPPS that you can order that is supposed to help. I also spent a lot of time in my sports bra, because when I would move wrong my t-shirt would make me itch.
If it gets very bad, your OB can give you hydrocortisone cream.

It WILL go away. It will not last forever, I promise you. I've got you in my thoughts momma. Fight the itch! :

I just wanted to say how sorry I am. 12 mos ago I would have skimmed over this post with a quick "poor girl", but then I had the most horrific skin rash thing happen between 8 and 13 wks of this pregnancy and it humbled me to NEVER discount the special kind of hell saved for those with PUPPPS or the like (we still have no idea what mine was, but basically all the OB's said it was classic PUPPPS, just obviously not since it was so early and went away...).

I did take dandelion root, and I also took homeopathic sulphur, which is meant to alleviate rashes made worse by heat, which mine was. Absolutely nothing topical or bath related worked, and I think we spent our savings on every cream and product we could find. I spent many a night crying in a cold shower at 2am...it was horrible.

So I wish I had some magic cure, but all I can do is a BIG hug and a 'I have been there, and I pray it gets better soon!!'

Thanks everyone!

I'm happy to say though that it has gotten better, not perfect but I'm not wanting to crawl out of my skin like I was a few weeks ago. I've been drinking the Dandelion root tea and I ordered that soap someone posted above and I've been using it. Oh after a bath with that I'm in heaven!
Again it's not gone by any means but it's at a point where its tolerable now. If anyone is questioning buying that soap, don't just go and get it!!

I had been wondering how it was going as I imagined insanity with the itching...so its good to hear its better!

I am so glad you are feeling a little better! I wish I had known about that soap when my friend was pg.

Just had to say I am glad you are feeling better because I had PUPPS with my daughter and it was absolutely awful. I used Sarna Lotion too which is the only thing that helped. I'm going to have to try the dandelion root tea and perfecting my diet next pregnancy because I am terrified I will get it again. I do think it could be a reaction to the stretching of teh skin though because I didn't get mine until after the baby's birth when I my skin had just been stretched the most and the bumbs were concentrated on my strecth marks.

Glad you are feeling better!!
