I second-guess everything, especially his eating patterns. I always wonder if he sleeps too much... should i wake him and get him to eat? But he seems content...?? He'll go for hours without eating and then do some cluster feedings in the evening. And then dp is always asking WHEN did you last feed him, like he hasn't eaten in days. There's ppl who tell me to feed him every 2 hrs and then others tell me to let him sleep. I get 10 different answers from 10 different people about everything!! I just want BFing to work SO BADLY.

I have to get someone to bring me food since ds is always asleep on me (usually on top of the boppy) and if i set him down he'll wake right up.

And does the poor guy have to act like we're torturing him during a diaper change??

I love hearing that it DOES get easier! I guess i just need reassurance that i can do this + that i'm not doing everything wrong.

So glad for this thread!
This is exactly how I feel. I am a first time mom too. And sometimes I wonder if Karen Joi is getting enough milk, if she is sleeping to long during the day, should I wake her. And oh, when I change her or give her a spinge bath you would think I was hurting her the way she cries. My dad thought someting was terribly wrong the other day when I was changing because she was crying so hard. I am so glad it gets better as she gets older.

oh baby, why do you cry???

Hello, Othersomethings :-)

You are not alone!!!

We brought Riley home on Thursday. Our first night was pretty rough, and we had a projectile vomit on Friday...scarry. When she hiccups after feeding, I feel like it's my fault that she may have an electrolyte imbalance. Glad to hear, I am not alone.

Also, we were forced to put her on a schedule in the NICU, but now I am feeding her on demand, with a slight variation. She has acid reflux, so I stop her after a few mintues of feeding and burp her, then when she shows signs of sleepiness, I burp her again. Then, I hold her up right for 30 minutes, during this time, if she shows interest in feeding again (rooting, sucking fingers, and smaking lips), I give her some more booby. Finally, once she is asleep and had been elevated, I put her in a bouncy seat to keep her up right. She has been sleeping well, and I am keeping my fingers crossed, she continues!!!

The crying spells are tough, but I am getting the hang of why they come about. One night, Michael and I could not get her to stop, and then we realized she had a wet diaper...changed it, all better.

Hope things are getting easier for you!!!

ps. I have been offering my breast to stop the hiccups, and it has worked everytime. Of course, crying makes them go away, too.
