Considering a HBAC Waterbirth

Hi...I am new to this, but I am 24 and expecting my fourth baby in March. I

have always wanted to have a waterbirth and am considering one with this

baby. I was 16 and 18 with my first two, so I just did whatever the doctor

said. My third baby was in severe fetal distress. Her cord was wrapped

around her neck twice preventing her from coming out. That resulted in an emergency C-Section. My doctor is very

supportive of me having a VBAC, but I don't want to be strapped down to a

bed and be constantly monitored. I am thinking of just having a waterbith at

home. I would appreciate any success stories you ladies may have to ease

my fears. Also my husband is a bit apprehensive but very supportive of the

idea.

I understand your not wanting to be monitored.

I would suggest searching for a midwife in your area.

You can check the Virgina area of FYT

You can also check yahoo groups for "ICAN Virginia" there are different groups for different areas.

Congratulations!!!! I highly recommend both waterbirth and homebirth

One of the first books I ever read about waterbirth was Choosing Waterbirth (and I believe the author lives in VA ). You might also want to check out waterbirth.org

Some Mothering Magazine VBAC links here

Hope these are helpful to you----best wishes and happy birthing

Hello and welcome! You're in the right place for lots of good information. I'd suggest having a read through some birth stories. Here's a VBAC story, and here's a home waterbirth story, and here's another nice home waterbirth, and this one is my very long birth story.
My home waterbirth last month was incredible. I don't know how women gave birth before the invention of portable hot tubs.

All I have to offer is my own success story! I had a wonderful HBAC in the water 4yrs after my c-section with my son. It was VERY healing. Good luck!

I am planning an HBAC waterbirth for this baby. This will be my first baby after my c-section...

I suggest you join ICAN and find your local chapter. They have given me a lot of support and are some really incredible ladies!

Thanks for the responses. I found a birthing center near me, but unfortunately they can't take transfers after 28 weeks. I did call a midwife that assists with homebirths, but they don't accept any type of insurance. I'm hoping that maybe they'll work with me and just do the birth and I can continue care with my OB. That would definitely be more of an affordable option for us. If not I just won't say anything to my husband until it's too late and I'm in the bathtub! LOL!

Even if your midwife doesn't accept any insurance, that doesn't necessarily mean your insurance won't pay anything for it. Most insurance will reimburse you for at least part of the costs.

BTW, where in VA are you?

I live in Williamsburg. I'm on pregnancy medicaid so I don't think they'll reimburse me.
