The "I'm just too cold for that" support thread.

I've been feeling pretty guilty lately about having our thermostat set at.... 74 So, I thought I'd see if there are other ladies out there who are just too damn cold at 68, 70 or whatever degree.
Personally, I have a low body temperature, and even at 75 if I sit still too long I start getting cold!
So, who else wants to confess that they are just too cold to turn down the thermostat?
Ours is set at 68 during the day, colder at night.

I am always freezing in the winter, no matter how high we turn the heat up. In the winter I generally wear a long sleeved shirt, a sweatshirt over, jeans, two pairs of socks, fuzzy slippers inside. If I am sitting, I am usually under a blanket, sometimes with a small space heater pointing at me.

dh said that in our next house, we will have a wood stove or fireplace, and that he won't expect me to move from it often!

If I lower ours I have to move constantly or I am freezing. I actually turn it off if I sit down because I would have to keep it at 80 to stay warm. I just turn it off and put a blanket on.

Mine is at 55. I am freezing, but also cheap So I am suffering it out with double layers of thick socks, two shirts and a blanket.

me! I like to keep ours on 70-75 (when I'm real cold 80) :

then I got this past month electric bill (we only turned our heat on on new years eve) it went up $80 this month! ackk! I am turning it off again except at night it is on 60. in the morning I will turn it back up to 70 for an hour or so (I'm in AZ, it's cold, but we'll live)

ETA-I guess I am not doing so bad, last Jan (2007) bill was $260 this Jan (2008) was $201. compared to Dec bill of $117 I am turning the heat waaay down!

btw last year I was still cloth diapering 2 kids (this year both are potty trained so I use the dryer waaay less and even unplugged it for awhile)

Oh I am FREEZING!!:

Mine is on 65 during the day and 55 at night. Once I'm in bed, I'm fine. It's now, in the day. Three shirts and I'm still cold.

If money and the environment weren't an issue, ours would be on 75 during the day.

You are lucky you can turn yours up. I'm jealous!!!

yeah . . .
ours has been around 72-74. it doesn't help that we have wood floors, which are very cold because the basement is unheated. i try to turn it down to 70 or 68 if we are going out for a bit, and at bedtime, but dh always turns it up. (sometimes i catch him with it turned up to 76, 78, yikes!) i'm trying to keep it a little lower, because we burned through a $500+ oil delivery in 40 days. the $500+ worth of oil we got on monday has to last longer than that . . .

Oh yes, I'm always freezing my butt off. Our previous two houses, we had installed a wood stove, so I didn't feel bad about keeping the house nice and toasty, but this last house we bought doesn't have one, and DH is refusing to get one. We have electric heat with two gas stoves/fireplaces. We only use the electric at night, it is kept at 50-55 in most of the house, and then 60 in the bedrooms. I keep the stoves going a lot during the day though, I just stay so cold. : We just got our last gas bill, it was frigid last month, and it was still only 80 bucks, not incentive for me to turn them off more.

i'm freezing here too. i keep the thermostat at around 68-71 during the day though. i figure i'm still shivering at 75, what's a few more at a lower temp. i still wear warm clothing, thick socks, slippers, and about 2 or 3 shirts with a sweater on top. lol our heat bill has been around $260/month lately, which just makes me sick. lol but not sick enough to turn it down much more than i've got it..... it has been fridgid cold outside though. we're up to 29 today, yay!

i have a lower than normal body temp too(97.6), pretty low blood pressure, and i'm very lean. i'm the one wearing pants and long sleeves in the summer time when everyone else is sweating. lol

i absolutely loved growing up with a wood stove! even though the rest of the house was chilly, the main room was always sooo warm. i lived in the space between the stove and the wall. lol we cooked on a wood cook stove too, so the kitchen was always super toasty. i hate cooking or just being in my kitchen now as it's the coolest room in the house.

so who's ready for spring??!?

My mom could join your club. So could my co-worker. I am on the verge of quitting because the library is kept at about 77* and she still has a heater on in our office. I C.O.O.K.

My mom keeps her rooms (separate heat controls and bills) very warm. I keep my part of the house around 66* during the day when I'm alone, 68* when the fam is here, and 66* at night. I wear short-sleeved shirts, shorts, and bare feet on hardwood floors. It's so interesting to see the huge differences of what is comfortable for individuals. Our heat bill in our 1400 sq. ft. was $85 last month and $105 this month. My mom's for her 350 sq. ft. was $75 last month and $90 this month.

I get frustrated with the suggestion to keep the thermostat at 68 in the day and 65 at night because it assumes everyone has a forced air heating system. Those temperatures would freeze the pipes in our house. We have a boiler/radiator system, and when its this cold keeping it at 68 barely keeps the radiators warm. I actually do things in reverse here. I keep the thermostat around 70-72 during the nighttime hours and kick it completely off back to 66 during the day when we are not here. The pipes will stay warm for a long time after running on the higher temps, so we can get away with the lower daytime temps without the house being freezing. Our house is very old, and for some reason the normal laws of physics do not apply-i.e heat does NOT rise in this house. The upstairs is always MUCH colder than downstairs, so that's another reason for keeping it so high at night. Even with the thermostat at those temperatures some of the upstairs rooms are barely 68 degrees because of the old windows and no insulation.

ETA: gas bill came today....they grossly underestimated on last month's bill and made up for it on this one. For our 2600 sq ft, drafty old brick house with bad windows, we're averaging about $400 a month on the gas bill. Sux to be us....But I refuse to freeze!!!!!! We need to live somewhere warmer LOL!

Absolutely! People think I'm crazy when I say how cold I am but it's true! At home, even with the thermostat on 65, I still have to wear wooly socks, undershirts, long underwear, polartec fleece and the like.

I'm usually cold from October - April!! My DH says I'm a reptile.

I'll join you in the guilt factor. We keep ours above 70 - all day and night. I could use it MUCH cooler, but we have a baby and my elderly mother-in-law just came to live with us, and DH is home during the day. There is never a time we turn it down when we leave the house, because we're never all gone at the same time. Someone is always home.
ours is around 70/72, me and ds cant function if it gets to cold in the house and i have an elderly Fil who lives with us who has bad circulation. We keep our house around that temp all year round. sometimes a little higher in the summer.

i would turn it down during the day, too, if no one were home!

I tried to keep ours at 18*C (64.4*F) but I am too cold. My toes go numb even with slippers and wool socks, sweater and a hat. : My husband goes around with a tank top on and he's not cold! I turned the heat up to 19*C (65.5*F) and now I am fine. At night we have it set for 15*C (59*F). We use lots of blankets.
Ours is constantly at 21 degrees celsius (that would be 69F I guess). I feel guilty about that, but anything less and I freeze. Even now I have woollen socks and long sleeves. Hubby would like it to be even warmer, but we try to keep the costs down a bit.
When I'm home during the day I try to keep it at around 15C (59F?) and wear lots of warm clothes. I spend a lot of time in my office so it's generally at about 18 (64F). Why I find really strange is I'm great to sleep at about 15C with warm blankets (it's the only time of the day that I'm warm in the winter) but my Dbf turns UP the heat at night in our bedroom to 20c! (Umm.. 66F?) which I find too warm. It's just ironic that he turns up the heat at night and is constantly turning it down during the day. The main part of the house is generally at 10C during the night and we turn it off in our offices and bathrooms. We really need to get a timer though so the main part of the house will be warm when we get up in the morning.

Being really cold is a symptom of hypothyroidism... might be worth checking! It's 1 way I know I need to change dosing.
My cousins wife has hypothyriodism her heater is usually at about 76-80. Mine is usually about 67 when i go over there I feel like im dying lol.
