so i figured that after the new baby was born ds #1 (33 months) would ask to nurse and then when i said yes he would loose interest in actually nursing. he had gottten to where he only nursed right before bed and then right when he woke up. then about a week before the baby was born he started asking to nurse a lot, but now that the baby is here he thinks he needs to nurse every time the baby does. i don't really mind it is just sort of draining right now and i can't get ds#1 in a comfortable position and he is so active he wants to nurse and bounce round and this bothers the baby, etc. part of me is glad they are nursing together and the other part is like, "sheez are you going to nurse until you are 14!" i know that is stupid and it is normal for a 33 month old to want to nurse, i'm just grumpy i guess.

I'm just popping by on my way to nap b/c DH took DS1 out to let me sleep, but let me say I totally understand!
DS wants to nurse whenever he sees the baby -- nursing or not -- and I simply can't do it. I need both hands to nurse a newborn, which usually means my other breast is inaccessible. Plus, this baby has been losing too much weight, and I really need to restrict most active nursing for him at least until my milk comes in in force. (Luckily, DS1 is quite used to dry nursing and is just as happy....) Also, the baby is sleeping with me and DS with DH, and every time baby wakes up during the night, DS wakes up too and has a complete meltdown over not being on my bed, nursing.
The few times that DS cuddles up with one breast and the baby is nursing well on the other, and DS reaches over to stroke his head, are very sweet, but there's so much more of hysterical screaming...

that makes me feel a little better. tonight ds had a meltdown and sat in my lap and nursed almost non-stop for an hour. luckily the new baby was asleep in his dad's lap the entire time. i just feel like i'm nursing constantly and should just be walking around topless.

I posted the same thing in the child-led weaning section. I'm struggling too with tandeming. Sometimes its ok, and other times I want to scream.
Kellymom has a section about tandem nursing too, which helped.
ITA about the nursing constantly. If I'm not nursing, my dd is asking to be nursed. Or she's hinting that she wants to nurse. Or she's asleep and Rhiannon hasn't stopped nursing for the past hour
I think Kiki will nurse until she's around 5, at which time Rhiannon will probably quit too. I don't know, just a feeling.
