Getting rid of new car smell?

I can remember noticing when we bought our last car that I would get headaches while we were out, but didn't think anything of it. Well, we got a new truck last week, brand new, and it is really bothering us! Amethyst had a horrible headache the entire time we were in it today, as did I. James has had headaches and sore throats, Asheby can't tell me if anything is wrong.

Ugh! What should we do?!? I can't just make my family suck it up and deal with it when we have to go out, so I need to get rid of that smell. And yes, I just read all about how dangerous that smell is, so it makes this even more urgent!

As long as the weather is dry tomorrow we are going to roll all the windows down.

I dont really know but maybe you could steam clean the car, using vinegar instead of cleaner, then put a little cotton w/ your favorite e.o.'s dropped on it to freshen the car with a smell you like? I'm just guessing at this, as to what you could try. I've never had the new car scent issue.

I'd leave the windows open as much as possible. If you have a garage, leave the windows down all the time in there and any time you are parked someplace safe and dry. Maybe steam cleaning the upholstery would help a bit. The real problem is presumably all that new foam and plastic off gassing toxic stuff. Keep the windows cracked when driving, heat on if needed. Make sure the vent is set to outside air rather than recirculate.

Thanks! I read that the smell comes from all the glues used to hold the interior together. I never noticed it this bad in any car we have had, but we've never had brand new.
I hope I can get rid of it. We all felt so bad yesterday while we were in it, I'm almost scared to go anywhere! Anywhere we drive is far, so we don't make quick trips.
