Would you crochet a baby wrap?

I'm thinking of crocheting a baby wrap similar in length to the Moby and others. What advantages and disadvantages would crochet offer over, say, knitting or something else? Would you use any ribbing? And is there anything else I should consider first? I don't have a pattern, so I'll just be winging it...
Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions!

I know nothing about knitting, but just want to say you'll want to make sure that the weave, whatever you choose, is tight enough to be supportive. Sounds cool, would love to see a photo

To crochet a baby wrap, I'd use a small hook and a good strong yarn in order for it to provide the support necessary. This would yield a very heavy, dense fabric that would give/stretch very little. Knitting (small needles/strong yarn) would definitely give a lot more stretch and this would probably give you more of the Moby feel. I don't think any ribbing would be necessary as just knitting would be stretchy enough.

I would choose a mercerized cotton or bamboo yarn too. Wool or acrylic might have too much stretch or give for use in a wrap.

Honestly, as someone who is the queen of "I could make that!" I would suggest that you just buy a commercial wrap.

Firstly, the chances of you getting it right (i.e. supportive enough without being too heavy) are not 100%. I'm not even sure they're 50%. I don't say this to criticize, it's just that a wrap is a very specific thing, it has to be right or else you'll be in pain while you use it.

Secondly, for the expense and time you're going to go to, just buying a wrap will probably be cheaper.

Thirdly, you are only ever going to be able to make a stretchy wrap, and it's my opinion that a stretchy wrap is only really good for a smaller baby -- you'd need to buy a new wrap anyway if you still want to wear a baby who is 20lbs and up.

Just my two cents. And have i mentioned how in love with my Didymos I am? Yes, it's a stupidly expensive big piece of cloth, but it's still totally worth it.

Probably so. But I'm going to try anyway. If I'm not around for a while, I'm either tangled up in the yarn with a hook through my side, or I died trying!
