Lactivism(ish) at Wal-Mart!!

Don't hate on me for going to wal-mart, I had to get a cat box, litter and food for a stray that we took in and Petco was going to cost me WAAAAAY too much. The cheapest cat box that they had was freakin' 8.99! I digress...

So I was at WM, DD was in the sling and after I hoisted the cat food and litter in the cart she got hungry so I whipped 'bub' out (her name for nursies) and let her eat. We went up to the register and were waiting to check out when this older man (70s?) in line behind us touched DD's hand and said "I wondered what you had strapped to your chest, but this little hand answers that!" . So we started talking and he realized that she was nursing and he said " its wonderful to see a young mother nursing her baby, my granddaughter wouldn't do it" and then he made a few more comments about how nice it is that she gets a drink while we shop, etc.

Its always so nice when someone recognizes what we are doing, I'm so used to the dirty looks that a nice reaction just makes my day! I've posted about another experience NIP'ing and it seems like the older folks around here are gung ho about nursing. My Gmil just makes a huge deal about it everytime we eat lunch over there, she loves that I nurse and she narrates while I feed Callie. Its sweet and sad because she breastfed all five of her boys and then a few years ago had a double mastectomy, I think she really loved nursing.

BOY AM I A RAMBLER TODAY!

Thanks for sharing that story!

Some of my biggest nursing supporters have been elderly men. In fact, many of them have said the same thing you heard, "my daughter/grandaughter wouldn't do it and that makes me sad"

If only everyone was so supportive!

It's important to share negative stories to get support, but its also so important to share positive stories like this so new moms realize that its not a war zone out there. Sometimes you get so much love and you inspire other women! Thanks for sharing!
