Does your grocery store give a credit for reusable bags?

I was at WinCo last night. Pretty cool that they give a .06 cent credit for each reuseable bag you bring in.
Does your store give a credit? How much?

3 cents per bag at our discount grocery store. I like that place. They keep getting more organics in too.

I get a nickel! Yesterday, I didn't have a cloth bag in the car so I used a plastic one from another store...still got the nickel back!

No credits around here, but I think it's a great idea!

they give a credit of 5 cents per bag, but the cashier rarely actually applies it.
Its kind of an impractical thing. Do I get credit for each bag I hand the bagger, each bag the bagger actually ends up using? What if they are done ringing up before the bagging is done?

Its trivial enough that I just don't worry about it. I would bring my own bags regardless of the credit because regadless of environmental concerns, non-reusable bags are something else I have to organize and I just don't want the hassle.

haha, pumpkin, yeah right? It is so true. "oh, yes, I'd like my credit in all silver, please. Thanks for my 3 dimes!!! Now I can...hit a gumball machine??

*giggles*

I just appreciate the effort. I used to feel sooooo heady when I shopped at my coop and whole foods as a single gal, complete w/like 2 burlap or hemp sacks. Or even, gasp organic cotton ones. Now I'm like 10 gigantasaur duffles of who knows who made it from lands end, free library bags, free school bags, and whateve else I can find. To feed a family of 5 plus one dog. For an almost $200 shopping bill. To save 30 cents.

Ohhhh, I gotta bee meeeeee.......

Ha! Your family sounds like mine! Except 4 cats instead of the dog. Last night I spent 198.00! (Big stock up trip, we were out of everything!) I know for sure all my bags will be used, and I will probably have to use theirs too. So it is easy for me to say 9 bags and get the credit. I just think it's cool that these big mainstream stores would give a credit for that. I have a hard time believing WinCo pays .06 per bag, but they give me the credit. What can I say, I am a cheapskate as well as environmentally concerned

Mine doesn't give credit, but they do sometimes give you dirty looks for using them Even though I bag my own stuff ALL the time, in bags I bring in, so what? It's not like you are getting a cramp or anything

I am DYING laughin here, rose. It IS so true!!! Everytime, I'm knowing the irony of it, but I still feel good doing it, and I like money back in my pocket. Every. time.

Ohhhh, I just gave you $168, don't have enough for dinner everynight, and sketchy on lunches, have breakfast covered and two desserts....hmmmm...BUT! you gave me thirty CENTS BACK! Thank you grocery store man. THANK YOU!!!!!! << insert goofy doofus face >>

3 cents or 5 cents if it is their brand of cloth bag I believe. Plus bonus points on your store credit or debit card.
One place give you 50 PC points for using their bags or totes (part of their financial institute points system). The other places just try to push their reusable bags on you, lol!

double post...sorry!

No... can't believe someone gets dirty looks though, good grief! And good for you doing it anyway!

Bag credit

We have two stores in town - both owned by the same person. At one store you basically have to beg them to give you the bag credit (5 cents) and the other store gives it to you no questions asked.

I have Chico bags and I sometimes have to try very hard not to chuckle at the young baggers that look at them like they've never seen a bag before. I just tell them how awesome they are and how much you can shove in them!

Safeway gives I think a $.05 credit a bag, I think. OR maybe $.06. I forget. Anyhow, I never have to ask. So does Foodland (most days), my commissary (some days), and I hear tell that Long's the drugstore does too, but I never shop there almost. We have a few bags from everywhere. They're cheaper at a lot of places than making my own (plus they're all made out of recycled materials, too!) They do kind of stink, tho.

I heard that Home Depot might start soon, too. I know they all of a sudden have reusable bags for sale (though theirs are a little more expensive--BUT you can clip them to your cart!)

I love the feeling I get when we use those bags. I had a $242.00 grocery bill yesterday (for 3 adult males, a 50-lb dog, and lil' old me-- a whole freaking cart-full! Yay stock-up day!) and I only had to use ONE plastic bag. I LOVE getting home, unpacking everything, and not having a BILLION stupid plastic bags floating around my living room for my puppy to shred into bits before I stop him.

No credit at Martin's (Giant). I even asked the manager yesterday. They used to give credit but they decided to offer low cost reusable bags for sale instead of rewarding those who use them. They did tell me that plastic bags cost the store .03 cents each.

We shop at a co-op and at Earth Fare, they both donate .05 to a local charity for each re-usable bag you use.

At trader joes, you get your name in a raffle. Every month, 1 lucky winner gets a bag full of free food. I have yet to win

The other grocery store I shop at (Jewel-osco) doesn't do the credit thing.

5 cents. The cashiers are great though- they give you credit for everyone you bring- even if you don't use them all. I usually bring 5, but usually only need 4. I always get 25 cents off though.
