Oh these make me so happy it's wrong.

Quick details:
Small Picky Shorts
Elastic waistband
Short rows
Ruffle bind off
Extra stitches in crotch/leg join area
Scrap yarn (in order): fisherman's wool: orange, green, pink, purple. Wool of the Andres: green LTK Farm Yarn: Elijah Random wool : purple

The ruffle is not mine. I was scrolling through the finished covers on the soakers and longies group over at the r place, trying to get some motivation up. DD2 was needing more small covers and only had 2. I have some PUL ones but my kids don't do well in them so I was needing to really get some going. I found a curly purly soaker that had a HUGE ruffle on it. I sent the lady a message asking how she did it. I have been trying to get a nice big girly obscene ruffle and never succeed. She wrote back and told me a quick formula so I did it and it's PERFECT! You have no idea how happy these make me. I plan on doing more. Since I was using scrap yarn these aren't as long as I'd like but that's ok. Prefolds may poke out the bottom a bit but I know that could also be due to the ruffle since I know they can open up leg openings a bit more than others. It's hard to tell but there are three yarns on the ruffle. There were just so many stitches (about 350ish when I cast off each one ) that rounds were very quick. I just worked to the end of the yarn and attached a new one regardless of where I was in the round. You can't even tell. Since there are so many stitches each color only got about 1.2-2 rounds. I'm glad to have used up all these random bits. There's only a small amount of the last color left so that's nice. Ok enough blabbing. On to the pictures!

Rrrrrruffle!

Off the booty
On the bum

I forgot to set aside some of the body purple to graft the crotch so I had to use some of the purple I used to bind off with. I was worried you'd see it but 1. I've gotten so good you can't even tell and 2. the purple in both yarns has random bits of white so if you could see it you'd think it was the yarn details of the body purple so it worked out well.

Those are cute! That's making me want to put ruffles on DD's longies that I'm trying to finish, I love how they look.

If you want to get one like mine you kf&b on every stitch every other round. On mine I increased one round, knit 2 rounds, and then increased one, knit one, increased one, knit one, and bound off. You kf&b on every stitch on all increase rounds. You definitely have potential to get an outrageous number of stitches in the end. I think each of mine (if I did the math right) had 352.

Oooh, thanks! OK, I think you may have just condemned my in-progress longies to being non-gender neutral.

If you magic loop at all that might be the way to go. The stitches get very stiff and awkward. I had mine broken up among various circs. It wasn't difficult to manuver or anything but something like magic loop (with a good cord) would have made the process so much easier.

I'm doing magic loop, DPNs and I just do not get along!

There's no way it would fit on any amount of DPN's. I had my 16 inch circ., my 12 inch circ., and a couple 8ish inch DPN's by the last round. I have a long Susan Bates but it sucks and for some reason wasn't cooperating. I could have single handedly won a war with the amount of sharp points on those legs. :

oh, now that is too cute! It has the look of a skirt--reminds me of carmen miranda, in a good way . the colors turned out fabulous!

I showed a friend and she said it looked like the salsa skirts. I was trying to explain to my sister what it reminded me and all I could think of was a tropical cabana. Salsa skirts is much better of a visual.

Off to google Carmen Miranda.

Oh my goodness. Those are some SERIOUS ruffles there! Throw another layer of ruffles on that bum and she could go square dancing! Absolutely adorable.

I just love big ole ruffles like that!

Whoa. That's some serious flounce.

You know that back when we were kids, little girls wore frills over their bottoms as well, right? Just a thought- after all, why hold back?

Hey, if all it takes is ruffles to get your ovaries twitchin' you're already on the verge!

Ok so the formula for it I got from a lady on ravelry who did it on a curly purly soaker. I happened to be looking through the back projects on the longies and soaker group and saw it. Since I had just tried doing one on my cp soaker with no luck I asked how she did it.

Rnd. 1: kf&b on every stitch
Rnd. 2: knit

Repeat these two rounds for a total of 3 increase rounds, ending with rnd. 2.

On mine I accidentally did 2 knit rounds between my first and second increase rounds but I don't think it matters. On hers she did 3ish rounds of ribbing before starting the ruffle. I thought I loved the picot pair I did.....
