2008 in 2008 February thread - Page 2

joining in

I'm joining in! I am not sure if we actually own that much stuff (though I might be surprised when I count DD's baby clothes and diapers that I will be handing over to my sister), but we definitely have to much clutter.
At the moment it is 8/2008 and a few freecycle items awaiting collection. Slowly but surely :-)

Yesterday DD and I cleaned out her room in anticipation of DH painting her room as a surprise for her birthday next week.

We threw out one garbage sack worth of scraps of paper, broken toys, etc.

And this morning I sorted out the kids' toys in th family room and in the boys' room. Another bag of trash tossed!

We sold the baby's crib (that we never used) today! It was a little bittersweet. I took so much time picking out the 'perfect' crib, not to mention the twenty plus years that I've grown up thinking that a crib was essential when one has a baby. Let me just say that a stack of cash takes up much less space than an unused crib! DS has a bigger play area now!

1 Crib
1 Mattress
2 items that DH sold

389/2008 - but what a mighty 389 it is!

Finally had the time to get back on the decluttering wagon. I cleaned out the other storage closet in the basement. It is now a usable space as DH's server room and storage. So nice to be organized.

i haven't been participating on the thread, but i have been purging away! i really can't keep track though. i was at 400-something, and i've gotten rid of bags and bags since then - mostly to the goodwill, some to other families. i'm not counting trash/recycling or borrowed items returned to their owners.

anyway, seriously, i think i'm half-way there but i no longer have the drive to try to keep count. is that horrible of me?

ooh! one other question. i've been decluttering our living areas and our wardrobes, because i've read that i should work in the areas that will make the biggest impact on our daily lives. that's cool, but i'm itching to deal with the boxes in our basement. i'm not done with our living areas, and haven't touched our bedroom other than clothes, but what do you think? can i dig into the basement?

I say, if you have the motivation, go for it! Maybe it'll snowball to the rest of the house

I'm finding the purging to be somewhat addictive.

I shredded a ton of papers this morning, basically all of our financial files which were more than 3 years old and tax returns which were over 7 years old. I have no idea how many pieces of paper, probably at least 1000. But I'm going to call it 100 for purposes of this thread.

So 170 is my new running total.
