Anyone have a good recommendation? I'd like one that is truly traditional, using palm sugar instead of white sugar, etc.

My husband is Thai, so I have a total of 8 Thai cookbooks, but all of them just say "sugar" for most recipes because they assume Americans won't have palm sugar on hand. You can substitute crushed palm sugar for white sugar quite easily in any recipe- they exchange 1 for 1.
I sometimes use recipes from this website: http://importfood.com/recipes.html and a lot of them specify palm sugar. They also strive to be very "traditional" recipes. I've also ordered from the company (this is how I got my sticky rice steamer set) and really like them. In fact, the owner contacted me because at the time I was having the order shipped to my parent's house and my parent's house ended up being the same house he grew up in as a child. Small world!
I absolutely
Thai food! Totally OT, but I loved how when we were there when his mom went to make dinner she literally gathered the food from her garden or neighbors gardens. We had all sorts of things fresh from the tree like coconuts and mangoes. It was pure heaven. Oh dear, now I'm hungry

I recommend "Thai Food" by David Thompson. I bet there are lots of reviews on amazon. There were others I was interested in, but for the sake of $$ that is what I chose. I have also read good things about Hot Sour Salty Sweet.
There are some nice recipes and info at Kasma's http://www.thaifoodandtravel.com/recipe.html including recommended brands of ingredients. I use palm sugar in all the recipes...
Enjoy and please post if you find a favorite! I'm always on the lookout for southeast asian food.
