How to get rid of a mouse?

I saw a mouse run across the living room today and I need to get rid if it and any little friends it may have. I would really rather not kill it (them) and I REALLY dont want to use any find of poison (baby, cat and rabbit in the house) HELP!!!

We have been through mice hell, so even though I started out not wanting to kill them, I got to the point where I didn't care. They can take over your home in no time and the more I learned about them, the more disgusted I got. But, if you really can't stand the idea of killing them you can try these: http://www.amazon.com/Havahart-Anima.../dp/B0000DINGG
Personally, we didn't have any luck w/ this kind of trap. They are very sensitive and we kept setting it off.

I should add that traps only go so far. You should invest in some steel wool and plug up every hole you can find. Anything wider than a dime should be plugged. You should probably pull out your fridge and stove, too, b/c they love to be in those places. We actually pulled our dishwasher out b/c they had chewed a hole in the cabinet to get behind it. Oh, it was bad!

Anyway, good luck and act fast!

Your cat should be all you need!

We've lived in 2 places that had mice in the last several years. There were times we would find a dead mouse on the living room floor from the cats. The mice would usually try a second attempt doing whatever mice do and then that one would be killed by our cat. After the second on both accounts, no more mice in the house. They really are smart creatures. I've assumed they took the hint and left. Haven't seen any since.

Yeah, our cat has no clue how to hunt I guess. I am working on finding holes, but this is a OLD house.

Peppermint essential oil works well as does peppermint leaves. I also use those electronic devices that emit a sound (that only rodents can hear). So far, I have not seen any or evidence thereof.

That sucks Im guessing you have a male cat. Our male cat could care less about what type of creatures enter our place. Our female tho, shes our bug and spider catcher.

some cats just are better at it or more interested in it than others and also some types of cats are better.
contrary to popular belief not all cats catch mice. we actually had more luck with small dogs!!
our nanny had a poodle that she would bring to our house once in a while and she would catch mice even outside!

Female cats tend to hunt more than males. You might have better luck if you add a female. Of course, our male cat hunts bats for some unknown reason, so there are exceptions to all rules.

How about an electronic pest-chaser? It emits a sound too high for people to hear but annoying enough so that all the rodents should leave. My inlaws used one and it was effective.

(But come to think of it.. the cat probably will hear it and hate it too?)

I'm bumping this up to share a positive review. I caught two in this:

If you have particular areas where you know they visit, mint works really well. I went down to the HFS and picked up some peppermint and spearmint in bulk, and a handful of heat-sealable tea bags. Stuffed each one with the mint and popped them into the drawers where I kept finding droppings. Haven't seen any sign of them since.

this won't necessarily help you get rid of it, but my mom uses steel wool in the cracks or holes where they can get in. I guess that stops them... if you know where it is getting in at.

They do sell live catch mouse traps that you can release them once they are caught.
