Okay. My last labor was 2 hrs from the time I woke up feeling contractions to the time my son was born.
The birth before that was my dd2 and I had mild contractions for a few hours, not convinced I was in labor at all, then all of the sudden my water broke, the contractions suddenly became painful and my dd was born 45 minutes later.
My dh works at least 1 hr from home. The drive is longer during rush hour on Thursdays and Fridays, even worse if there happens to be an accident on the interstate that he takes coming home.
My midwife lives almost 2 hrs away.
Also my mom is coming to help us but she lives in PA and we live in AL. Her employer requires vacation to be turned in for the year each November. She took a guess and booked her vacation time for the week following my edd, assuming that I'll either have the baby before or while she's here, allowing her to help with the other kids after the birth.
All of this is stressing me out big time. I'm afraid my mom will come and go and we won't have the baby, thus leaving us with no help after the birth.
I'm also afraid my midwife and/or dh won't make it here in time. I have friends coming to help with the labor and birth and they can catch if needed but I really want my midwife and dh here.
My last baby was 10 lbs and of course I'm worried about shoulder dystocia, which could be a disaster if I'm here alone with just my friends trying to help the baby out. I really need my midwife here!!!
Anyway, in this situation, would you be asking your midwife to help with some kind of natural induction or would you just cross your fingers and pray for a longer labor that happens a right around the EDD and that everyone makes it in time for the birth? Or would you be thinking about some natural induction methods to try and plan it around a time when midwife and dh are nearby?
My midwife's assistant lives about 45 minutes away (not counting rush hour traffic) but works on Fridays from 3-11. She's a nurse and can't leave work if I call her, so my midwife plans on sticking around town during the time her assistant is working, so that if I do go into labor, at least one of them will be available to get to me within the hour. So the assistant would be able to get here quickly every day other than Friday, but I really would prefer that my midwife makes it in time, kwim?
Sigh...these are all the things that have been weighing on me lately.

It must be hard to feel so unsure of how quickly this next birth will be. If I were in your shoes, I would try to stop dwelling on the what-ifs, and really focus on the ideal outcome. Try visualizing the birth exactly the way you want it to happen as often as you can. Make affirmations that your dh and midwife will be there to support you. I am a firm believer that where you focus your energies makes a world of difference. I also believe that focusing on a possible negative outcome can make it more likely to happen. Sorry if that sounds woo-woo, but I've seen proof of it so many times in my own life that I can't deny it!
