Shower liner solutions...

I know this has been talked about before, but I'm looking for a earth-friendly, cheap and NON-VINYL shower liner. Apparently the hemp ones are supposed to be mildew-resistent, but a lot of sites have reviews that say they mildew just as fast, and are very costly.

I was thinking about just getting a fabric one that I can wash.

I read somewhere that you can make the fabric ones more waterproof by spraying a beeswax emulsion on them...any idea how to do that?

You can wash the vinyl ones in the washing machine, just don't dry it.

Don't know about making it more waterproof, but I love my fabric curtain. I got a good deal on one at Bed Bath and Beyond with the 20% coupon. I throw it in my washer now and again with a couple of towels and hang to dry.

We have the BBB hotel fabric one in one shower. I did have to soak it in oxyclean after a year of use to get rid of the mildew (very infrequent machine washings, though). It looks brand new.

Ikea sells a non-vinyl one for $1.59-1.79, if you are near an Ikea. We have that in the other shower. You can gently wash that in the machine, too.

I had hemp ones that mildewed.

Now I have a nylon liner (much better than vinyl!) and cotton outer. The nylon liner was about $7-8 - still very reasonable. It can be washed in the washer - and of couse just hung to dry.

We got one at Ikea a few years ago that's PVC free. If it starts to get gross we throw it in the wash and hang it back up to dry.

I have always bought the cloth "hotel" ones. I just bought 2 at Home Depot the other day. They work fine and I just run them through the wash once in a while.
