The Atlanta Ikea has a baby care room with a chair by the restrooms. I just sit on furniture and nurse, last time with my shirt over my distractable baby's head.
This is the "mother's room" at Ikea Stoughton, MA.
Not too impressed. I wrote them a letter in November, never even received a "we received your letter, thank you"- nada, nothing.
I'm in the UK so may be slightly different but for reference our local IKEA has a designated (nice - I've looked although never felt the need to go in there to nurse) nursing area but their stated policy is also that anyone who grumbles about a mother nursing her baby anywhere in the store is politely advised that they should move on (ie the complainer not the mother) they will also try to ensure that the mother concerned does not know about the issue. I've certainly nursed my 3 year old there many times.
I havent looked for a nursing room, but back by the bathrooms by the food area there is a nice quiet bench in a nook that I have seen mamas feeding their babies in. There are so many nooks and crannies in IKEA though.. if you want to find a quiet place to nurse it never seems far away. Ive seen a lot of mamas nurse in the discount area- LOL, one for the road I guess! I always smile at them.
I've never really looked for one, now the next time we go I will have to for sure. I love IKEA and will be greatly disappointed if there isn't a decent Mommy room...On another note, I generally just sit and nurse anywhere anyways, I have always wanted on of the sofas they have...so I tell DH everytime we come up to it...Oh I need to nurse in it to "test it out" LOL
The one in Elizabeth, NJ has at least two places. One of course in the family restroom. However, I recently noticed another one in teh restaurant. There is a children's play area, and on one side is the warming station for bottles and baby food, etc...on the other side is a half wall. The opposite side of the half wall houses seating for moms who prefer more privacy while breastfeeding. I love IKea.
The IKEA in Richmond BC has a fabulous nursing room It's by the family washrooms by the restaurant, and it's a pleasant, dimly-lit room with lazyboy chairs, a sink and diapers, lots of paper towels...and toddler toys to distract sibs! It's really awesome and I've nursed there several times.
we're in germany. A pretty "nursing neutral" place. Not very many people do it, but no one is going to say anyhting to you.
Our IKEA has a nice, sitting/changing family area near the bathrooms. Though I've nursed my babe at restaurant tables and everywhere else with no problems
Mine does. It is by the restaurant, and several more I believe. The one by the restaurant is like a two room bathroom. There is a big comfy chair, a changing table, coat hooks, and then some toddler toys. In a separate room altogether is a toilet & sink.
i used to always joke when i was pregnant that if i wanted to be around other preggos i would go to ikea, every other person is pregnant there!
Okay, this is completely off topic, so I apologize, but you are so right! I personally went to Ikea when I was 11 months pregnant with DD (at least it felt like 11 months) to try to walk her out.
The IKEA in Schaumburg, IL has a large mothers/nursing room. It is clearly designed for more than 1 mom/baby/family at a time. There are a few comfy seats. I went in to try to avoid distraction but it was MORE distracting in there. There were more babies and young kids for my son to look at in there and he wouldn't nurse. We had a better time out in the shopping area.
Yes, this is the one that I'm thinking of that had a great nursing room. Unfortunately, another mother was in there already and I felt uncomfortable (I also had a toddler), so I went into a comfy spot next to some bookshelves and nursed my 18 month old.
