Sleep number bed?

Hi everyone, wasn't sure where to put this.... we are needing a new bed, DS rolls into me when he's on the outside our bed sags so much. We are going to get a King : I am so excited. I really like the idea of the sleep number, anyone have one? It has a 20 year warrenty and obviously won't wear out and sag like ours is now (about 10 years old, really good mattress at the time). DH asked about what if it gets a hole.... we will have to ask. Any input would be great! thanks!

My cousin got one for a wedding gift. Said it was the most awful piece of crap bed ever. About halfway through her pregnancy she finally put her foot down and insisted on getting a good quality regular mattress because she was in intense pain. The "firm" numbers never were firm enough. Her dh liked super soft so he was fine. I would go with a latex or a posturepedic if you have the money. Unless you are totally opposed to offgassing in which case the best organic mattress you can afford.

Ok great, hadn't thought of the off gassing. How long does that go on? sheesh, DS sleeps with us too.... where do you get an organic mattress?

Sleep numbers SUCK! Unless you spend all the extra money to get all the accessories, they are horrible. Seriously. Not comfy. The middle is like this long hard beam...ugh. Double ugh. Can you tell I hate them?!

And offgassing aside...I love my Tempurpedic. I would marry it if I could!

my dad has a sleep number and while i haven't slept in it I have laid in it for about 20-30 minutes and it isn't that comfortable. It isn't that FIRM AND IT FEELS LIKE YOU ARE ON AN AIR MATTRESS. (opps caps lock) It is very nosiy and you can only adjust one side at a time.

They have them in Radisson hotels. We stayed in one and I wasn't all that impressed with the sleep number bed. It was OK but not really all that.

I'd definitely spend a night in the hotel with one before you plunk down the $$ for your own. You can make it a fun family trip: swim in the pool, eat in a restaurant, etc.

The only people I know IRL who have one like it OK but said it turns out that they're both the same "sleep number" so they could have just saved their money and bought a regular bed.

Hmm. They must have changed how they make the beds, because my mom has one that she bought a number of years ago and it's wonderful!

We have one. I think it's just ok. DH loves it.

I've got the Nautilus which is just the Nordic brand of the sleep number type beds. I've had it almost 5 years and can't WAIT to get back to the US and get myself a Tempurpedic. It's been ok to sleep on...but it's very hard for me to get comfortable, and no matter what I do, I'm always adjusting it.

Before buying a bed, definitely go lay on them. When we bought ours, we took a few trips to everywhere. We tried the Sleep Numbers, the Tempurpedics, the Simmons, Serta, Sealey, Verlo...all of them. We ended up finding that the only one comfortable for us was a Sealy ultraplush pillowtop. But the reason they make so many mattresses is because everybody is looking for something different.

Everyone I know who has had one HATES them.

DH and I were just talking about getting one of these about 30 minutes ago. I guess we have more to think about.

I hate my sleep number bed!!!! I loved it for the first year, after that it was ok for a year and the past 4 years it was miserable!!! I hated it. It is an air mattress if you like sleeping on an air mattress buy one, otherwise save your money.

I bought a latex bed and I gotta say I love it! It makes sleeping so wonderful.

DON'T BUY A SLEEP NUMBER, you'll regret it!

I have a friend who used to sell mattresses and according to him Sleep Numbers are the best bed you'll ever sleep on....for the first 3 months or so. Then, after it's too late to return/exchange, your body gets used to it and it's the worst bed ever, because their is no core support. However, I am continually tempted by them, just because I am highly influenced by Garrison Keillor's voice lol.

I researched bed buying for almost 2 years before we made our decision. I wanted to make sure we got something that does not offgas, is supportive, and would be comfortable for both my husband and myself (and babies/kids).

We ended up buying a king sized Savvyrest from one of the MDC mamas. I have to say, I am SOOO impressed!!! She provided the best customer service I've ever experienced. I think she is my favorite person I have ever bought anything from. Here is her contact info http://bowernaturalbedding.net/home.html (312)226-8060. We had no problems buying from her despite us being located across the country from her store. I'm not sure if Savvyrest's policies have changed on that, but I think it would be worth giving her a call or email to see. She also has all sorts of natural bedding and other products that are fun to browse too.

I did so much research on prices, different options and especially non-toxicity. Savvyrest was the company we decided to go with because you can look at reports on their website to see *exactly* what is and isn't in the mattresses. I was worried with other companies about how much filler they were using in their latex and what was in the filler. Also I was worried that I really wouldn't know the difference between regular latex and the organic/natural, and a disreputable company could send the wrong type and I wouldn't know it.

I don't remember the name of the model we got, but I'll describe it. We got the king sized, 3 layers of Dunlop (because my research showed that Dunlop is the most non-toxic). We went with a layer each of soft-medium-firm. That's one of the things I really love about the latex mattresses...how customizable they are! I was nervous about getting a mattress over the internet that I'd never been able to try in real life, but I figured with so many options to customize it was hard to go wrong. We got soft all one piece, and firm and medium split down the center. Right now we have it set up (bottom to top) firm-medium-soft. I'm debating switching it to medium-firm-soft to be a little less soft. Also I've heard a lot that Talalay is much softer than Dunlop, but at least with this combo I've been amazed at how soft the Dunlop is.

Well we've had one since 98 and honestly we both love it. I can't imagine someone not thinking it's firm enough. I'm normally like a 10 or something now that I'm pregnant I've upped it to about 45 and I can't imagine how firm 90 would be.

We are hardly gental with the bed and it's never had a problem, certainly not a pop or anything, even the tubes that run under the bed the cats just don't seem to be intrested.

At the time we bought ours it was about the same price as a regular high quality mattress. We've coslept on it for well almost 7 years and never had a problem with the kids.

I meant to say, also, that mattresses are such a personal preference. I think it's really important to go to a big store and lie down for a good few minutes on all types of mattresses. You don't really know for sure what you might be comfortable in.

I lobbied hard for my sleep number bed after trying one in a store (I actually stayed on it for no less than 10 minutes!). I didn't expect I would love it so much.

And watch out for "100% money back guarantee"s. What they mean is: If you dont like the bed, return it at your expense and we'll give you the purchase price back. It costs a few hundred dollars to return the bed!!

We have one, and I don't like it. It feels like I'm camping on an air mattress. I like mine soft, but when I sit up to go to the bathroom or get off the bed, my butt hits the box spring.

I recently tried a high density foam bed with a memory foam (3 inch) topper. Oh my word, I could have curled up and took a nap right there in the store! Foam is what we're doing next time. It won't sag like a regular mattress because there are no steel springs to get worn and stressed. Foam has a much longer life then both the air mattresses and inner springs.

The woman at the foam bed shop said that she gets so many people coming in to replace their air mattress beds. People get fed up with the innerspring and get an airbed, then they get fed up with them and go to foam. Foam beds are so underrated.

Luckily our sleep number was given to us so we aren't out the 3 grand, because I would have pissed that this is all we got for so much money.

I have also been considering buying a new mattress for quite some time. I got into a car accident and I have been medical massages. and instead of a normal bed, she has this bed:
http://www.intellibed.com/celebrities.php

it takes all the pressure of your pressure points and apparently she had really bad carpal tunnel that went away.

I just have the pillow for now. we can't purchase as we are leaving the country, but we intend to buy this when we move there.
